Please Post What Efforts you may have done today to make sure you are riding safe, after 3 RIP Threads and My nephew Buying a Bike Today, i am Realy feeling uneasy for letting him Buy the bike. ALWAYS expect the worst. Especially Intersections. Never trust ANYONE out there. If you can avoid to try to "look cool" at times, you may be able to ride another day. It also helps to have people concerned/watching over you too...

Wear all the gear, all the time. Get the best stuff you can't afford! Dress for the crash, and not the ride. Wear bright colored gear and helmet, NO BLACK!!! Gives you a better chance of being seen.

I have tendency to look at the other vehicles wheels when approaching an intersection and I have the green light. If the cars wheels are moving then I slow it up regardless of how fast I'm going. I have learned that eye contact with other drivers means nothing, they will still pull out in front of you while looking you in the eye.

I always try to watch drivers heads for a sign they are going to change lanes.
And i try to stay away from old people, wheel chair plates and people with a bunch of whiskey dents.

KEEP THE EGO AT HOME!!!! You have nothing to prove to anyone -- there is no trophy...

Proper gear as mentioned above.
  • Motorcycle Boots (not shoes) (strap your shoes to the back seat if you need them).
  • Full Faced Helmet (this is what protects your head don't be cheap).
  • Leather Jacket (I started out with a mesh jacket but quickly learned that I should be wearing leather - wear leather).
  • Motorcycle Gloves (again these protect your hands don't be cheap).
  • Knee pads (I've seen to many accidents where the riders knee's get messed up bad. My knee pads arrived today.)
  • Leather Pants (if you want the most protection)
  • Back Protector (this is often the most forgotten piece of gear but is probably one of the most important pieces)

Ride within your limits.
Don't ride when you are upset, angry, depressed, etc.
Stay alert at all times and keep your eyes searching - do not focus on any one thing EVER.
