Morrisey was best known in the UK for being the lead vocalist in The Smiths.
This is their most well known song over this side of the water:
What Difference Does It Make
http://youtube.com/watch?v=O5DE8UQnM5Y
Not really my cup of tea back then or now and I remember reading that he was very difficult to work with.
Look for The Smiths on You Tube for some others.

Morrisey = gay

Not the happy kinda gay, but more the "listen to my music for 10 years, learn allt he lyrics, support me in my darkest hour, and tell everyone I'm not gay so you can also pretend to not be gay, just emotional like me" - kinda gay.

I never heard of Morrissey being considered "new age"...

Try reading this --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Age_music and see if that helps.
