Talking Wassup MH!!

Hey MH Guys & Gals!! Been a long time rider.. bikes i've owned: Yami FZR600, CB750 & 250 Nighthawk's, CB-1, Virago 750, DR350R, GS500, etc etc.... anyway... after almost 8 years of no riding (long history), got a chance to ride my neighbor Honda XR650L... and I got hooked again!!! So, a month ago I bought a CBR F3 1998. Previous owner took the entire bike apart and never got around to put it back together... I did some work to it, got it running (kinda rough) and started planning the restoration (fairings in poor shape, electrical issues, etc). BTW, I never rode it. no helmet, no insurance and not 100% sure that everything is ok with it...

While looking for parts, I came a across to another CBR F3 but in this case, a '95... went a look at it, and bought it. She needs a little tlc too but definitely in much better shape than the '98...
Ok, I brought it home last friday 25th. Did some regular maintenance and got it running like a champ...
Last night, i decided to swap tails between the '98 and '95 because the '95 is the most complete and ready to go and i like the '98 tail better... did the swap, everything went smooth.
Once the swap was done (10:30pm) this is what happened:
F3: come on Nick, take me for a very little ride, lol....
Me: Um.. i don't know... I don't know baby, i'm waiting for the helmet to get here... no insurance, you never know!
F3: come on!!! please please please!!!
Me: Ok, let's go... but just around the neighborhood.
F3: Sweet!!!!

Put my jacket on, gloves and started her up...
Ok, long history short.... I live 3 blocks from I-45 (Oak Ridge North)... i did the 3 blocks, then a right turn, and less than a block after, i noticed lots of flashing lights, uh-oh....

I pull over, got the "Get off your bike, bla bla...".
Cop: do you know why i pulled you over?
Me: mmm no..
Cop: there's no license plate.
Me: D'oh!!! (i was like, i'm a ****ing idiot!!!).. well, i live 4 blocks from here. I just bought the bike a few days ago. did some repairs tonight and totally forgot to put the plate back.
Cop: License and Insurance please.
Me: Here's my license... and about the insurance.. well, I haven't included it yet in my policy; as i said, i bought it a few days ago and haven't used it until tonight. (that is true!)
Cop: Any special reason you aren't wearing a helmet?
Me: I don't have a helmet yet, waiting to get it delivered in the next couple of days.

After 10 minutes, cop pass me a ticket with 3 citations:
1- No license plate
2- Riding without approved headgear
3- Fail to maintain financial responsability

Cop: have any question??
Me: well, ah..uh.. no.
Cop: I suggest you to not ride the bike anymore tonite.
Me: uh mm yeah.. definitely, lol

BTW, Court date is Feb 13th.

So, this is my short introduction... Now i'll be looking for tips, guides or any kind of help and looking forward to meeting some new friends here.

First question:
Any idea on how much i will have to get out of my pocket in fines? Also, i would like to take the course pretty soon. Any recommendations on this subject??

Sorry for the long post!!!!
Rubber side down,
Nick.

No worries, excellent intro....and welcome.

I'm not sure what the fees will be, but for the license plate you should be able to get that dismissed. I think the court treats MSF like defensive driving, so generally if would dismiss tickets (if its a moving violation-not your case), so you will prob be paying fees:/:

Nice dialogue with your scooter by the way, have had that many times

Welcome

Sorry to hear about your tickets. The plate- you can bring the registration with you to show you have it. You prob can't get out of the helmet ticket, though, good luck
with that...

As for the insurance? Dam. If you can prove you just bought the bike, and have insurance on other vehicles AND you add the bike yesterday, the judge MAY drop the ticket. If not it's going to cost you a large fine, plus a large fine every year for the next three years... they call it a surcharge.

I've had the judge drop the ins ticket because of the new car, but you'll have to beg. :/: and you'll have to show proof of ins on the date of the ticket.

man...

The failure to maintain finantial bullshit is going to be over 200 most likely(mine was 320) then the 3 year annual membership fee of 250something. It's completely bogus.

But anyway, welcome to MH

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome! Yeah, i know i'm an idiot but like scootertrash said, You live and learn!
As per the license plate, i also think i can get that one dismissed; got all the paperwork, registration, inspection etc to show them that everything is current.. (BTW, the plate is already bolted on)

Insurance: I do have 3 more vehicles in my policy. In fact, i added the F3 yesterday the 31st. I know it's no going to help in this case, but i don't want any other ****ing ticket for that reason...

Helmet Law: Can somebody explain how that works?? i mean, if you choose to not wear a helmet ( i know i know, not a smart move) you have to be 21+ and had completed a motorcycle operator training and safety course OR have a health insurance plan providing the person with at least $10,000 in medical benefits. I'm close enough?? Yes, No? (BTW i'm 31 and have a good health insurance plan)

Thanks,
Nick.

PS: the sienna colored font was perfect to use!!!
