Tax prep thread....

who does your taxes?????

its tax time and you see the H&R commericals coming up.

Do you guys do your own, or is it more valuable for you to use a professional.

I hear that some think its a waste of time because the H&R guy is basically charging you to type in your info into a "turbotax" type program.

Others say that its worth it to find a good tax prep. because they can find the deductions that most avg. joe's don't know to find.

I'm in business so there are a lot of expenses that I can use as a deduction. I've been researching to find the little things that most don't thinkg about, but am still curious as to if any other business people use a tax prep person.

Last year was complicated tax year for me...sold a business, flip a few houses, and a few other investments.

I paid a CPA here in houston 300 bucks and I got 297 bucks back from uncle sam. I thought I was going to have to pay several, several thousands but a CPA is worth their weight in gold. Plus, by paying a CPA the IRS cannot charge you and fines or intrest for any mistakes. A great transfer of liability.

This year I have some really odd deductions...

cashed in 401k, sold some stocks- that was my income

Plus, single mom with two kids

Plus, $9500 in tuition

That's not an EZ form! But I can do it on my own with TurboTax- and get the deposit in about 7-10 days.
