My thoughts and prayers are for your family right now. I felt uneasy when they put my pops (step-dad) under the knife to clean out his jugular. Squoddy is right, they can do AMAZING things.

(PS - Sorry I had to work all day and miss this thread until this late hour!)

He has an artery running between the cavical (sp?) and the aorta (sp?) and will be going under the knife for open heart tomorrow morning in Galveston UTMD. :/: I know Popo's dad just had a bypass and things went ok so I'm hoping for the best, but there is nothing scarier than hearing your dad, who was superman actually scared. I don't think he has ever admitted being scared of anything before. My wife, daughter, and I will be heading for Galveston at 2 in the morning, so I probably won't be on for a couple days after that, but I will give updates when I get a chance. Any and all prayers would be apreciated. I don't know much about the procedure. My dad called it a bypass, which is refreshing as those have become quite common, but at the same time, the doctors say it is so rare what he has, that they have only read about it in books, and have called it a "Special" procedure. I guess I will find out more about what extent it is when I get there.

Your dad will be ok. (trust me)
Spend time with your dad and let him know that you love him everytime that you get to see him. I just buried my dad and it's the hardest thing that ive ever done in my entire life...if you need anything , dont be afraid to ask

Thanks guys, everything went as good as can be. I'm headed back right now to go see him again, but it went well. They said it couldn't have gone any better, and his vital signs afterwards were perfect. It was a sick feeling seeing him afterwards. I did get to see him start moving before I had to head home last night. This morning supposedly he isn't completely awake, but he winked at my grandma. Thanks for all the prayers and words, looks like they worked.

RNcbr, sorry to hear about your father. I couldn't imagine a loss like that. I know it is going to happen one day, but still. I will take your advice. All of a sudden i feel like i don't see him enough.

Well I'm out of here to go deal with Mardi Gras traffic. Thanks again.

My dad is just passing Hobby airport on his way home from the hospital. It is the first time he has been able to talk on the phone since the surgery. Things are looking good. They sent him home on oxygen because they say he is having a hard time breathing at night, but looks like he is doing well.
