Update on my dad

Some of you may have read a couple things I have posted on my father. He is 46 and has a heart condition. Well he has finally gotten the special catscan required to find out exactly what is going on with his arteries. He has an artery running between the cavical (sp?) and the aorta (sp?) and will be going under the knife for open heart tomorrow morning in Galveston UTMD. :/: I know Popo's dad just had a bypass and things went ok so I'm hoping for the best, but there is nothing scarier than hearing your dad, who was superman actually scared. I don't think he has ever admitted being scared of anything before. My wife, daughter, and I will be heading for Galveston at 2 in the morning, so I probably won't be on for a couple days after that, but I will give updates when I get a chance. Any and all prayers would be apreciated. I don't know much about the procedure. My dad called it a bypass, which is refreshing as those have become quite common, but at the same time, the doctors say it is so rare what he has, that they have only read about it in books, and have called it a "Special" procedure. I guess I will find out more about what extent it is when I get there.

an artery running the clavical? and the aorta? The clavical in your collarbone...

the vein that runs in/around that area is the left/right brachiocephalic vein, being that is the carotid artery and the juggular vein - got anymore info? Like what he has is actually called?

My terminology sucks I know, I'm trying. All dem words are too big for my brain. Pretty much, he has two veins/arteries sharing one hole when it enters the heart. Like 40% blockage just from that. Then he has a vein/artery running between two others. One is the heart Aorta, and one other that starts with a C, I thought they said clavical. Remember, this is doctor, to parents, to me, so it could really get messed up in translation. They didn't tell me a name for it. All I know is it is a birth defect, and no one in Houston has ever seen it before. Only read about it. :dontknow: I will try and pay attention tomorrow so I can give you proper terminology for the inquisitive minds.

It is rare to have viens and arteries where they aren't supposed to be, but it's not so bad. He was probably born missing a major artery and his body built him a new one. This is not so uncommon.

The Dr's here just don't know what it will all look like when they get in there, that's all. He'll be fine. They'll be able to lessen the blockage and may be able to reroute the artery or widen the opening. These surgeons are amazing and can do amazing things!

I'll be praying for you and your family. Please let us know how he comes out.

Patrick, I'm sure it hits home, you guys are still really young. I know you can never prepare for stuff like this, but you don't expect it at a young age. Its not supposed to happen till later in life. lol
