Should a Noob get Shoei?

I went down to a motorcycle shop to check out some helmets. The sales man was helping me look at helmets at the price range I had in mine (100-250ish). I tried on a a Scorpion EXO-700 series helmet. With all the other helmets I tired, I found this to be the most comfortable, felt it was one of the lighter ones. Before I was about to make my final decision, the smart smart sales man asked if i ever tried on an Arai or Shoei. I said No I havent and he insisted for me to at least try it on just for the heck of it. Man oh man. I tired the RF-1000 series helmet, and it was a LOT more comfortable than the Scorpion EXO-700. Just seemed to fit better, was more comfortable, seemed lighter, and just felt good on my head compared to the other helmet.

As most of yall know, Shoei is one of the more expensive brands. Is it a good idea for a Noob to buy a helmet with a brand such as Shoei. From me being a noob, I have a better chance to go down than experienced riders, so should I just buy a cheaper one (which seems a lot less comfortable now).

Wow, that helmet was comfortable.

noob get shoei? good protecton is not for matured riders my man. if you can afford one i say go for it, but hey when tyou buy your new bike negotiate for a helmet with your purchase, imho the brands goo in this order, from not so great to great, kbc, hjc, shoei and arai are to me in the lead. and also you get good protection because you want to protect your head, its not like a money issu on how much to spend on a bike because you may drop it, if you can afford the best protection, get the best protection. if you think you have a 40 dollar head then get a 40 dollar helmet, in helmets you get what you paid for

all decent helmets provide adequate protection. more expensive doesnt necessarily mean more protection. I'd suggest to buy most comfortable.

I bought Shoei because of the style! It was all silver and i have mirror face shield. It was also most comfortable.

Ill try to negotiate but I highly doubt ill be able to, for the fact that the bike JUST got released, and there is someone waiting to pay them their asking price

dont let them feed you that , your money is just as good somewhere else, trust me they wont let you spend your money else where if they can get it there, they have way more than enough mark up in the bike to let a feww hundred bucks flly, and also if all else fails tell them that you have another dealer offering you a free helmet(shoei)

Scorpion helmets test very well. Shoei, Arai, even some "middle line" helmets, test extremely high. Shoei and Arai do not provide the best protection necessarily. Their R&D is spent in areas such as aerodynamics, comfort, ventilation, etc.

The advice I tell everyone is, buy the best protection you can afford. That being said, the most expensive helmet is not necessarily the best protection.

Very confusing, I guess. Good luck.

I'll look around, but google terms like "ANSI," "Snell," etc.

its not about safty, its about the shape of your head and the best fit to your head, then go comfort.

Doesn't matter how well it fits, if there's no protection. I will agree that fit is very critical, but because a lid fits well shouldn't override the fact that it's basically an egg shell surrounding your brains.

Ahmad, don't get a helmet that fits like . That's what gryphin means.

i was refing to scoprion helmet not being safe or not, i wasnt questioning the safty of that helmet, i was just saying, buy a helmet that best fits the shape of your head, and is comfortable, because thats the only difference between the helmets now days, they all meet the same standards.

some are just going to be lighter, have more vents and different designs and shapes

there was a BIG writeup in Motorcyclelist? one of the big mags a couple years ago.
and said what has been said by a few. price does not always meed safer.
some of the lower priced helmets did better thatn some of the high dollar ones.
To me if it said DOT snell or ansi it would be ok.
Just get a new one. find one u like, size, model # etc then look on'line for it. will save u some bucks.
