On a serious note, elaborate. What do you mean? Grade school is supposed to be broad and teach you a little of everything IMO, so I guess I don't understand.

grade school to me IMO meant k-5.... but since u ellaborated... i think school in general should get the kids ready for real life... and as far as the complaining parents about PT time, thats ALWAYS gonna happen

I think academics are primary. My school (La Grange) was always key on that. We didn't have it where star athletes got easier treatment and such. Homework sucked in my school, common to have 1-2 hours minimum each night, but it kept us way ahead. My wife came from a smaller school that HAD to have all their students play sports just to have a team. That caused them to have weak academics and she is realizing it later in life. She isn't dumb, she just wasn't taught. I moved back home to make sure my daughter got the academics I did. While my GPA was weak due to me not taking the time to do homework, I was very good at tests and learned a lot in class. Scored high enough on TAAS to be TASP exempt. We still have baseball, softball, and football state championships in the last 10 years, but not at the expense of the academics. Bottom line, nothing is more important than the actual education, we ALL need that in life, only a small portion of us are capable of using sports to get us through life.

Critical thinking...too many people are incapable is critical thinking. Reading comprehension would be secondary as well...

sure it's messed up, look at the kids in america. they can't tell you where calif. is on a map let alone IRAQ.

thats why i plan to move to sugarland, cuz of the good schools.

and just as my parents were in integral part of my upbringing, i plan to be the same w/ my daughter.

parents are more important in life then school.

LMAO, this is too true. They had a thing on ABC News the other day and the staffers were asking people to point to Russia (One of the largest countries on the planet) and folks were pointing to Africa...

on this topic what about pushing kids through just to push them through.
or even teaching kids just to pass a state test not to succeed in life

how many of us know people where sometime you ask yourself ... how the did they make it out of school

I have found that parents tend to point the finger at the system and the teachers instead giving the children a solid foundation to take into the school system....and this is my opinion per experience...
