Baby Boy Found On Cherry Hill... RIP

GALVESTON - Police have launched an investigation to identify and determine what killed an infant found dumped at Cherry Hill on the far east end.

KHOU - TV

A local couple spending the morning sightseeing on the island made a gruesome discovery Tuesday when they found an infant boy dead on an isolated ridge known as Cherry Hill.

The couple called authorities at 8:59 a.m., said Lt. Jorge Trevino of Galveston police.

Firefighters and police arrived and found the infant, who is white and estimated to be between 3 months and 6 months old, dead of an undisclosed blunt-force trauma.

Police cordoned off the scene on the island’s far East End between the entrance to East Beach and Ferry Road, and began photographing and shooting video of the area.

Police interviewed the couple, who left about 10 a.m. in a car parked near the body atop a concrete ridge.

Officers also interviewed a local man who was pushing a grocery cart at the bottom of the ridge by the Seawall about the same time.

“The couple was observing birds and coyotes and thought they had found a doll, initially,” Trevino said. “But they came back and saw it was a child.”

Trevino declined to reveal the nature of the trauma, but said police definitely suspect foul play.

He said the child had been dumped recently, possibly overnight.

Officers also found a child-safety seat about 35 feet from the body.

“The child was partially clothed,” Trevino said. “And it appeared to have been ejected from a seat, either thrown out or fell out. We don’t want to specify the injury, because if someone calls to confess, that’s important information.” Trevino said police would immediately begin working to identify the boy by researching medical records.

“We’ll start with footprint records at the University of Texas Medical Branch,” Trevino said. “We’re going to identify the child.”

The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death, Trevino said.

Police have found other bodies in the isolated area by the Seawall, but none in recent memory on Cherry Hill, Trevino said.

Trevino asked anyone with information to call Sgt. Annie Almendarez at 409 765-3662.

This story is available through KHOU, Ch. 11's partnership with The Galveston County Daily News.

That's really sad, i can't imagine what type of people would do that. They definitely need to be shot or put off the streets.
