noise from front fork

i have a noise coming from my front fork (shocks?) when i push down on my handlebars. Sounds almost like a skweaky door. eek - eek... Dry rubber rubbing against metal, or metal against metal... What is it? My shock is giving away? or something needs to be lubricated? Or it is normal and i should just chill?

My bike is 1.5 years old with 8k miles. I would think it is kinda early for shocks to go... but who knows...

That can be a hard thing to diagnose over the web. You need to take it to a knowledgable person. I kept having a click noise happen under braking but I found the issue, it was the front disk. They had a few too many hard miles on them over 50K...once I replaced them, the bike felt like a new one all over again. Oh and my forks were rebuilt 4 times in those 50K miles. I wouldn't expect a cruiser bike to sustain the same forces my bike was put through though.

You could have a loose headset...but like I said, take it to someone knowledgable like Andy at Metric or Patrick at Motorcycles Unlimited.

isolate the noise;

with front brake depressed? if no, its in the front end

only when pushing down on handlebars? try pushing on gas tank or triple tree...

Most likely the springs rubbing the inside of the tubes - probably normal. How are you hearing this - surely not with earplugs and full face helmet
@ normal speeds?

the noise is coming from up-down motion of the shocks inside the fork it doesnt matter what i push... my fork has a chrome covers, i havent tried taking them apart but i might....

i barely hear it when riding... only when my engine is off and say im pushing my bike. or simply sitting up and down on my seat - in other words it happens whenever shocks go up and down... it might just be normal the only reason why it bothers me because it is new - it came about only a couple of days ago.

but i may just ride to Motorcycles Unlimited jic... I wonder if Patrick has a motorcycle maintenance class in feb like he had in jan?

It's probably normal, but bring it by and we'll check it out, no charge.

yes, I think so too. Might be the seals. And yes, it correlated with the weather change. I rode during the rain on friday and it started making the noise sat morning.

But i can't see any "bleeding" not on the surface at least...
