Just got a laser cutter IDEAS!

So my family company just bought a laser cutter for prototyping and the ideas are whirling in my head. I mean this thing sits unused more than 12 hours a day. Thatís 12 hours a day I could be using it.

The machine will cut thickness' up to 1" with 3 passes but I donít think that thickness is ever used on a motorcycle. So from what little I know about motorcycle plastics the following lists of parts I should attempt to make formed in my dome.

1. Under tail Fender Eliminator
2. errr . . .
3. uhhhhhh
4. ok ok ok so now you know why I posted!!

What parts do you think would be worth making a few of? If you make a Vector of any part that can be made with any thickness of acrylic up to 1" I can make one for you for a small fee (must be made on the newest version of Illustrator or Corel draw).

Further, I wanted to make the first fender eliminator for my 05' GSXR 600. Does anyone have the dimensions of the piece or perhaps a picture of one that you put on your bike? If someone wants to take some initiative with me I have the ability to market parts online with almost NO OVERHEAD AT ALL!

Talk to me folks, this is a great opportunity.
Brian

:: EDIT::
This is a PLASTIC cutter

Re: Just got a laser cutter IDEAS!

i dont know if its possible but maybe heres an idea...
on another forum a guy made his headlights look like a ducati from cutting holes in black vinyl (sticker stuff). Maybe its possible to do the same thing in a peice of thin plastic. i dont really know much about what your machine is capable of doing. or if its even possible at all. anyways just trying to help

Re: Just got a laser cutter IDEAS!

Think the confusion here is that people simply are not sure what this machine is capable of.

As for the Vector files what file extension do you need ? or is a "native" CorelDraw file (.cdr) sufficient.

I can think of a few sweet ideas that come to mind. Also what if we wanted something Laser cut out of our exsisting plastics ?
Maybe a Tribal design or Logo cut out with some LED's in the background for our Bling- Blinging Brethren ?
Seen some one cut out his rear fender with "vents" on R6 Forums, he did it with a Dremel and it looked nice, even cutting logos or designs out in the sides of Chainguards, Front Fenders Cowl Air Intake covers...etc etc etc...... And thats just Streetbikes don't even get me thinking of Dirtbikes or ATV's..........lol

You hit the nail on the head. The native files will work fine and I think that is a AWESOME idea. . . cutting things out of the plastics and backlighting them with LEDS. Man that is a great idea. I think we are gonna have to work on that. . . anyone wanna be a guinnepig?
