Do you remember members on MH from their User Names or their Avatars?

I just noticed this about myself.. and started to think of anyone else is the same way as me.

I've always had a horrible time remembering names and specific things like such. Its hard for me to retain information if it hasn't been repeated over and over and over (studying is a ). When people give me directions with street names, I'd completly forget the names, which way to turn, etc., unless I write it down to look at again later. I'm horrible with names. I've always been a lot better at recognizing images rather than words. Ill remember your face.. and who you are.. but thats about it. Its funny, I still remember studying for SAT's. I had list of 800 words and I needed to memorize its definitions. When it came time for the test, I knew exactly what page, where on the page, and what number the word was, but would blank out with its definition.

The same goes with everyones user names on this forum. I look at the user names, and most of the time I cant recognize who yall are... UNTIL I look at your avatar. Then I remember who you were, what you posted before, if you replied to me in the past.. ya de ya da. Also, your signatures help me remember who you are if theres a picture in there.

Anyone else like this also? Or am I the only on this forum?

Well, you might be a ~ I mean, who's to say?

I think the Avatar image does cement who we are a little. That's why when McKee and Fuller had a Avatar stealing contest it was hard to keep up with who was who. People naturally glimpse the photo first, not the name. Some people who want the pages to load faster turn the Avatars and Siggys off. It's my guess those people are most likely good with names too.

I'm with you Ahmad, I met Meaner-n-u about a month ago and I'll bet she can't remember my name.
But if you said Bumblebee she would go "Oh yeah I remember that jerk"!

I'd sure like to forget you! I've seen your screen name too much to forget you, but the avatar changes always make me look twice.

No bets needed - I'm AWFUL with names. I work in the medical field and names are a big NO! NO! thanks to HIPPA. I've taught myself to not use them, so it's very hard for me to change gears in the real world. Faces and Avatars FTW. I don't remember you being a Jerk, but if I said you were I'm sure it was true.

I think it's better to meet people in person and get to know them by their first names. BTW, for me it takes at least two m&g meetings to really remember someone...

True, but there's usually a fairly easy-to-spot, identifiable as witchdoctor theme.
