Did Blu-Ray win the HD battle??? or is it far from over??

http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=818

a little piece.....

"....It all started on January 4 when movie giant Warner Bros announced that, from May, all its high definition home releases would be on Blu-ray format, giving the format a 70% share of the DVD market. “The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger,” exclaimed Barry Meyer, Chairman & CEO, Warner Bros – you know, only about a year after every one else was saying the same thing. With the Blu-ray ball now rolling, however, things started moving pretty fast. New Line Cinema, owned by Warner Bros parent company Time Warner, followed suit days later, announcing its intention to abandon HD-DVD, as did yet another Time Warner stablemate, HBO Home Video....."

discuss your thoughts.....

Hddvd is on life support right now, is backing bluray so that one link is moot. If Paramount uses their clause in the contract between them and toshiba or Universal jumps ship its basically said and done that bluray is the winner. Its funny that microsoft threw their hat in to confuse the consumer until digital distribution hits the mainstream :/:

Well sony needs BD players on the market to 'win', another way to do that is to put on BD, fact is is a HUGE market, and pervs will pay money to get it in HD. on BD = millions of BD players sold = more BD movies sold besides = money for Sony.

I just bought a ps3 cause of that............. before I couldn't decide which one I wanted but that made my final decision.

I'm actually glad it happened cause it doesn't make sense to have some movies only play on one system and so on............ It's stupid that you can't watch a certain hd movie cause of what brand of dvd player you have. I'm not going to buy two different expensive systems just so I can have the opportunity to watch all movies and not just the selection they give me.

good for sony and samsung,
sux for toshiba and xbox.

It ain't over until I see fat ladies singing and buying BD players. Although it does make me feel kinda bad about the HD DVD player my girlfriend bought me for Christmas. Thankfully, alot of the DVD's I bought for it are still wrapped so I can exchange them for their blu-ray counterparts. While I won't be replacing my entire DVD collection in Blu-Ray, I will be opting for it versus HD.

I really don't think that is going to make the impact on the HD/blu-ray market that alot of people thought it would. can be viewed for free or paid for on millions of places on the internet. Easy access, faster releases (no pun intended), and not having to be embarrassed in front of a stranger when buying in a brick and mortar really made the industry for your average "consumer" And I think that this is the reason that was such a big deal when they went backed VHS versus beta-max.

Imagine we'll see the same gradual fade like we did vhs/beta... unfortunately I don't know that we'll see a rapid drop in prices of Blue-ray
players and the dvd's with this news.

One can hope though...

Yeah.. I figured it was something like that and not because you had insight as to why one was superior tech to the other.
