Procedures you follow when getting pulled over?

Are there any specific procedures you follow when getting pulled over by a police officer?

When I get pulled over in my car, I:

1) Turn on Hazards
2) Put down all windows
3) Turn off the car and put they keys on the dash
4) Have hands on steering wheel at all times (so officer feels more comfortable)

Is there anything in specific you motorcyclists do? Get off the bike? Take off helmet/gloves?

For any Cops that write on this forum, do you have any tips for us to keep in mind when getting pulled over on a bike?

turn the vehicle off. shut the up and say "yes sir, no sir" when called for. if in a car, keep your hands on the wheel. thats it.

I'd say the last three times I got pulled over, I put both hands out the window while the officer approached my truck. I held with my DL in one hand and insurance in the other. Gave them peace of mind, and got away with warnings. But the last time i was stopped, it was by a bike cop, i had my hands outside, and he got aggravated and asked if I was a criminal, had i been conflicted of a felony!!? He sorta scolded me and said I appeared to be a guilty guy because i was holding my hands out the window and that meant there was most likely a weapon in the vehicle and i didn't want to get in trouble for it. I was asked to get out of the truck, he glanced in front and back seat and needless to say, i got a speeding ticket. That's the last time I hold my hands out the window.

in car, pull over, turn off engine, roll window down, put my hands on the steering wheel, wait for further instruction.

Thats to much, you should have just got out and laid face down and waited on him..I dont know why everyone freaks out about getting pulled over unless you have something to hide. I just pull over put it in park and roll down my window, they will let you know what they want you to do.

Don't forget to adjust the driver side mirror. They train their spot light on you so you can't see them walking up to the vehicle (get a clear fix). I adjust mine down so they can't do that.
Of course, the last time I got pulled over was 2000. They might not do that anymore.

I like to jump out of the car real fast and run towards toward their car to freak their . Kinda scary having the gun drawn on ya though. But still a rush for me and the cop I bet.

The other fun thing to do is to stop wait until they are almost to the window and drive forward 10ft and then stop and say I am just playing how you doing officer.

I prefer motorcyclists stay on the bike, kickstand up. If you want to flee go ahead, I'm more concerned about my safety and being at a tactical advantage.

In a car, basic stuff like roll down windows, interior lights on, hands on wheel.

I've been doing it wrong for nearly 20 years? I just pull over and put the car in park. I've never turned it off, and I wait for them to ask before I do anything...

I do roll the window, unless I happen to be riding with my very unfriendly dog- that one time- he wanted to kill the nice officer. :/: I could only crack the window.

Oh, and always pull over to the left- scolded for that when I was about 20.

I imagine cops do get a lot of baddos out there, even on routine stops, so I'm always polite and smile- never gotten out of a ticket, though- thank I haven't been pulled over since 1994!

I've heard a lot of different things. Since i've had power windows, i've always :
-roll down window
-turn off car
-keys on dash
-hands on steering wheel
-license and insurance on lap so I don't have to dig for them

Though I read an article written by an officer and he said he prefers people to leave the car running, b/c it's a pain in his if you can't get it started again. I've also heard to just crack the window, and if he asks you to step out, you roll up the window and lock the doors, in order to prevent an "involuntary" search (from a guy out in Cali who's had several "fix-it" tickets from what he called "illegal" under-hood searches).

On my bike, the only time i was pulled over, both wife and I were on the bike, so we pulled off the road and got off the bike, took off helmets and gloves. Turns out he was checking to see why the plate registration didn't match what he thought the make of the bike was, so he thought it was stolen and would've asked us off of the bike anyway...

i would advise ONLY getting your license and ins. when asked to do so. digging around the dash and reaching behind your back as he walks up would arouse my suspecion if i were a cop.

as for locking the doors, whats an illegal under hood search.
