Legal Questions regarding parking on side walks

I tried searching but, couldn't find anything. I remember seeing motor cyles parked not in the parking lots, but on the side walks near the stores entrance. I've seen it done at stores such as Best Buy, AMC Theatres, Red Lobster, and especially at Star Bucks. I see why someone would do it, makes it harder to steal the bike when its in front of everyone. (just my assumption)

What's the legal issue behind parking on sidewalks?

wait, if its not a handicapped or fire zone, why would you get a ticket at the store? its private property, just like if you get into a fender bender in a lot, the cops wont give you a police report.

yep private property, but maybe they still can. I always run stop signs in parking lots when the coast is clear.

I'm sure anywhere near the doors to a store would be considered a fire hazard as it will be an obstacle if people should have to evacuate quickly.

BS, cause the ones giving the tickets have no regard for what you just said.

I took this pic a couple weeks ago at the Lake Jackson mall in front of sears.

Parked in the fire lane and the officer was no where in sight. I went into sears and after about 5min I see him talking to a sales person about air compressors.

Well at least it was not a law abiding citizen or else they would have got a ticket.

I have never been in any trouble for it....

but one time at San Joke, they told me to move it, but that was prolly because there were like 12 bikes up by one of the doors I was the first of many

Just like cops won't ticket speeders because they do it as well?

usually if its a store and your not in anyones way it may be fine, security may tell you to move it but if they dont say nothin i leave it there, better for me to illegally park than to legaly park and have it illegally stolen

Even though they have those plastic bike cover thingies (does anybody use those?), I always see bikes on the side-walk at the Wal-Mart near 288 n 518. Usually its a busa, u know how those busa guys are though. But no one ever seems to get in trouble for it. The little wal-mart parking lot security pays them no attention.

I used to do this a long time ago, back in the late 80's-early 90's. It was never a problem with any place I went. Now, it's a different story. Some businesses are cool with it, but more are not. But then there's alot more bikes out on the road now, than then. As far as legality, it's probably illegal due to fire or emergency access/egress issues.

In Denton, they ticket bikes for parking on the sidewalk because it's an extension of the street. The businesses don't own the sidewalk. However, parking at a store with its own lot and a small walking area in front of the store adjacent to the lot is not illegal, but at the discretion of the business. Most stores I'm in and out of so fast they don't have time to bullshit me.

I've done this all the time, never had anyone say anything to me. In front of Escalante's in Meyerland, the security guard in the lot actually gave me a thumbs up as I was leaving the sidewalk. Maybe he just liked bikes

Wal-mart, Khols, Michaels, Target, Best-buy. Haven't had a problem yet. Use some common sense though, don't park near the doors. Don't block pathways and be considerate of everyone else entering/leaving the store/area.

... I've seen some asked to move, or chased off from Walmart, but then the genius'es kept parking in a way/location that
thecart-boys could not get the shopping carts into the bays.

I've parked on the sidewalk at Target in Humble and Wal-Mart in Porter and on 1960 near TJ Jester. At both Wal-Marts there were already other bikes parked on the sidewalk. At the Target, it was Christmas and there was no other parking. No one seemed to mind, but as another poster said, I was in and out of the store so quickly I may not have given them time to gripe.
