R6 Tach Prob

I have an Yamaha R6 that the tach does not work and I have aa spare that does not work. They both jump around. Any one have an idea of the reason the crapped out or can you suggest a aftermarket replacement.
Thanks so much.

While the bike is running, is the tach idling fine and then jumps to say 8000 rpm, stays there a minute and then goes back to idle?

If so you have another problem somewhere else causing the tach to display a diagnostic code.

The R6 has a self diagnostic mode it goes into and it reflects on the tach.

If you get a chance, bring it by and we can tell you whats wrong with it.

Take a look at your low fuel level sensor and wiring, that's typically the major cause of it, especially if you disconnected it when you made the bike into a racebike.

Feel free to give me a shout at the shop if you need some assistance.

PS- it shows to be idling at 2000 then it will jump to 4000 then back down to 2000. It is a 2001, don't know it this makes any difference, just though I would throw it in.
