Elite TD 2008

Just got an email from them and though I would share.

"Welcome to 2008!

There have been some changes for the new year, first and foremost we will be operating out of only one facility for the year. That facility is the newest track to open in Texas, located in San Marcos. AND, Elite Trackdays will be the sole provider of motorcycle events for this facility. I have not put together a schedule yet for the year, that will be following shortly. I wanted to make sure to share the news with those of you that have been here with me FIRST before you heard it from some other source.

Who, what, where.... www.harrishillroad.com Harris Hill Road is a 1.8 mile course located just over 30 minutes South of downtown Austin and about an hour North of downtown San Antonio. Today I took my key instructors out to the track for a full day of feedback and the first official day of running motorcycles all day long at this track. To say the day was a success is an understatement. We have introduced motorcycles to the owners in grand fashion, I'm so very proud (and please with the results).

I'm excited.

Web sites have not been updated. Links haven't even been uploaded, the ink isn't even yet dry... But, feel free to spread the word. I am here to answer any questions that you might have about the track and what is to come this year.

All the best,
Moira"

I have got to see this to believe it, According to the email I got from harris hill they said the city council wasn't going to allow bikes on the track. but if moira pulled it off then this is great news. this track is only like 30 minutes from my house, i live in san antonio so i could get up in the morning and drive up there and be sitting in the gate in less then 30 minutes if i haul . I could do every trackday there and be home for dinner.

Looks like it would be a fun track.
Keep us posted on how this progresses. I'd be up for a road trip.

stop listing what u sold here - nobody cares...

I looked at some of those pics pretty close... I'd like to see the runoff area first hand... Did the track owners consult with anybody on preparing the track for motorcycles?

Also looks like four inches of asphalt... with cars already on it less than two weeks after... I'm no expert... but I've always been told it takes time for curing and resampling to make sure that all is good with the track before cars can take to it...

Iunno... time will tell... :dontknow:

+1, would hate to see a new facility screw up new pavement out of impatience....

Time will tell! Another track is always welcome! What bountiful times we live in now...

I don't think most track owners care about runoff, the curing process and motorcycle safety, especially when cars can bring so much more $$$.

Good example is Summit Point, WV. Took 3 days (Tues - Thurs) to repave in Sept, cars ran on it Sat-Sun and bikes on Monday. The track used to have concrete asphalt transitions, tar snakes, and notorious for lack of traction in the a.m. Everybody loved the traction and smooth as butter surface after the repave; however, that joint is tore up now and will probably be worse than ever on opening day in the spring.

I've never understood why owners place so much emphasis on repaves without thought to pushing walls/barriers back & creating more runoff for us. Hopefully, this isn't the case with this track.

+1 I received an email from them less than a month ago stating the city wouldn't allow motorcycles to run there but he was hoping to represent the idea to them later after cars have been successful in adding city revenue. I hope this information is accurate. I have family that lives right outside of san marcos so I would like to go up there for the weekend and ride that track.

Hi guys!

I know there are a lot of questions out there right now. That is expected. It's new... , they don't even have a building yet. The driveway itself is only two weeks old. But, I can tell you the track itself has been babied and taken care of.

I had a few expert racers out there on Saturday. I'm right now putting their feedback up on my site for review. But, the runoff is there - barriers AREN'T going to happen - the only concern out there right now are the metal poles that hold up the tarps that are there up until the grass comes in (only on the inside of one corner).

It's really up to us what happens there right now. They are car enthusiasts that had the idea of *build it and they will come*. I don't think they really understood how passionate the motorcycle community is. They have been told MANY things from the city to insurance companies to other outside forces... right now I'm trying to help them better understand that people on two wheels aren't the problem in the picture that was painted for them.

Thank you SO MUCH for all the attention.

This is the lower pit area from a deer stand at the top of the hill. The footings for the stand are the footings for future deck for the building. We brought our own *building* (it was a bit chilly on Saturday).

Oh, and when in doubt, bring an 11 year old to critique. Really. They were all sorts of freaked out, probably pretty certain someone was going die - or at the very least had 9-1-1 on speed dial. Having Brandon there and able to tell them how he was working at getting the tires to slide... you know, if a kid can do it *grown ups* SURELY can. Right?!?

Define "better". I think the track in San Marcos is a bit longer, but it's just as technical and tight. Looks like the only difference in the tracks is that this track in San Marcos has a lot of elevation, which would be a stark contrast to the "flat" tracks in the Houston area.

If you want a track "for" the liter bikes to open up and get up to top speed, TWS (Texas World Speedway) is the only track for that.

Either GSS or this new track is going to be tight and technical, which I personally find more appealing than the long straightaway tracks... IMHO.

Ima be optomistic, but I can't help but think that during this cold and wet weather that the impatience of getting cars on the track isn't going to screw up the pavement before it's had time to cure...

I'm sure there's more than one track owner out there who recently built/ repaved that wishes they would have waited longer for their tracks to cure before putting cars on it. I think the cost savings of NOT having to repave from damages incurred would pay for that alone...
