Claims adj is right. IF all of ur damage is cosmetic, then i would definately take it to another shop. Dealerships have higher costs on the parts as well as labor, & both play a small part in ur bottum line.

Option 1: Take it to another shop to get a better price

If the NADA is $6600, the repairs can't exceed $5200. So finding a shop 2 do the same work for less & give u a discount on the parts involved is the key. Try Javi at True Methodz. Take the initial estimate with u & see what his price on the parts & what he'll charge for labor 2 put em on.

Option 2: If no one can get u below the $5200

the ins co has no choice but 2 total it & u get a check for $6600, they keep the bike. In this case, also fight for any credits u can on the AM parts. Some ins co's won't pay u for those b/c they don't ADD any value 2 the bike, so I would suggest asking for a net difference of what that part cost u & what the OEM would cost as reimbursement if not the whole amount.

Option 3: It is a Total but u can "Buy Back" to keep it

Which ultimately means u'll sell them the bike for $6600, & they will sell it back to u with a salvaged title for a fraction of that i would say about $2k. Which isn't bad, if all of ur repairs are cosmetic. Buy the plastics thru Ron Ayers or on ebay urself and put em on. It's a little more footwork on ur own, but u keep ur bike.

NOW if u are still financing the moto, it gets a little tricky & option 3 is out the window. If it gets totalled, a check is cut to u AND the bank. The bank will take what u owe left on the bike, and give u any difference if there is any, ur loan is paid and u have no bike but hopefully have a little left over, option 2 is the key. If ur upside down (which most financed bikes are), u'll be PAYING the bank any difference, not satisfied by the $6600, in this case go with option 1 if u can.

If the lady that caused the wreck insurance is responsible and is going to pay... why are you worried about getting screwed...remember... they are pricing parts AND labor to do the work... labor ain't cheap.

Wow this is all good info. Thanks for all the helpful info guys. The damage is all in the front end. To me just the seals in the forks were blown but they say they need to be replaced. The plastics are in pieces in the front and the speedo/ gauges was ripped off as well. A hole was put in the radiator and I need a new shifter assym. So Im thinking maybe at this point I should just let them tottal it out and get a new one?

This happened to me about four years ago- but I didn't realize I was being screwed...

I was found at fault for hitting a woman who's car was conveniently parked in the middle of an intersection- small town, she was affluent- anyway, I was just turning left from a stop, probably going about 10-15 mph. I scratched her bumper and popped out her reflector. VERY minimal damage. Turns out, though, that it IS legal for her to have every problem found fixed by her dealership, not just what was caused from the accident. Total damage ended up being close to $5k. THIS is why our rates are SO very high. Needless to say, I have diff ins now than I did then, because they were not happy paying that for my fender- bender.
