I've had my 636 for 2 years now, and love it more than ever. To this day I have NO desire to own a 1000. If all you do is ride parking lot to parking lot standing by your bike, you'll get tired of any bike. If you actually get out there and ride, it'll be all ya ever need.

Take the MSF course BEFORE you start looking at bikes.

Talk to your Instructor at the end of class and get their opinion after they've watched you ride around for a couple of days. At least (at that point) they've got some ideal of what your learning curve is and where you're at.

Chuck Norris started on a 600.. it was the only thing that was able to defeat him :(....

He should have started on a 250

it just really depends on what you want to do with the bike. stunting and track days 600's are great. 1/4 mile or top speed stuff a bigger bike is weapon of choice.

Sadly, yes. I can't lie though, I'm going to a meet tonight to sit around, and MAYBE eat. Though you could say I don't own the prettiest bike on here.

Or you can just get an Aprilia RSVR and call it a day......it has all those components, not to mention pure unadulterated sexy!

And remember by year too....

A 600 made in 2000/2001 and new year 600s is night and day...

So year consideration/performance is an overlooked accessory. Start with something in your budget, remember it will need work, and u do need to get good gear too!

Most of all, have fun, be safe... we'll see ya out there...

No skimping on the gear. Pay as much as you possibly can for the best stuff. IMHO this is an area many newbie's to riding don't budget in. Its always secondary. And mesh jackets don't count as 'good stuff', they shred too.
