I bought my KLR just for this trip. It is fun riding around town, hopping curbs and driving down white oak bayou in the Heights...but I'm selling it when I get back.

You can get a decent KLR650 for a little over $2,000 all day and they are mules that can cruise at 80 or go through some serious off road fun.

going to MExico is not such a big deal in terms of getting into trouble, all you need is someone in the group thats savvy navigating the roads and also the bureacracy, and street savvy as well. always keep some 10 dollar bills in case you need to bribe someone and make the trip more enjoyable. It has worked for me. not to mention the fact that i grew up there

I've always wanted to tour a bit of mexico on the bike but I don't know if State Farm covers theft outside of the US and most of my friends werent interested, also, you cant bring guns over the border. All of that aside, Ya'll plan something for spring or summer break and I would love to go!

I've seen a lot of proposed M&Gs and rides rise and fall on here before they ever hit the road, so im not going to go buy a bikini yet, but this would be a lot of fun and i have always wanted to go international on my bike. classes are out mid may, so i guess we have a lot of time between now and then.
