HAHA... Indeed. I split lanes when the trafic isn't moving like at a trafic light. And that is only during rush hour whne the trafic is hardly moving.
sorry, I have no time to read the whole thread. so conclusively, is lane spliting legal or not when the trafic isn't moving?

lane splitting

This practice is going to get some one killed and ruin more than one life. I have been riding since i was 14 and have seen my share of spills. Please take just a minute to think ahead on what you are about to do.

I have split lanes on more than one occasion (on closed roads)wink.. wink.. but, I only do it when traffic is at a stand still due to the heat that my bike genrates with its exhaust right by my right leg and if I do split a lane it is usually doing 10 to 15 mph. Other than that it only occurs when I am in a positon in which I do not feel safe in and feel that I have to get out of quikly

I ride the emergency lane or split traffic twice a week. I have to get from Katy area to 288 & Yellowstone for class @ 6:45. The only way i stand a chance to get there on time is to split on the bike. Anytime its rainin and i have to drive the cage i'm late. Maybe one day way way way way in the future when I10 opens up completely i won't have to do this. But if traffic aint movin i'm splittin. Cagers aren't mad, they're jeolous.

Actually, there was a report published that indicates lane splitting in slow to stopped traffic is more safe for a motorcycle then staying in the lane. Apparently it is more common than you think to be rear ended in heavy traffic. This is also why it is legal in california. Just because something seems contrary to what is socially acceptable doesn't make it dangerous.

I personally think it should be allowed like in california.
I think it should be done in traffic jams and under 20mph or so.
When i hear people about how they should wait just like a car i would like to see a bunch of cycles protest by riding one behind the other in some traffic jam. say 100 bikes, again say 6ft per bike with 10ft between each. back your up another half mile or so then think about how much shorter and faster the traffic woulda moved had the bikes not been there IE splitting the lanes.
no matter what, 1 less vehicle taking a spot in line has gotta help get moving again.

i think in texas the law says something about only 1 vehicle per lane type thing. I think that the way it's written that riding a bike side by side in the same lane is not legal, but motorcycle cops do it all the time.

Lol, it does not mean that they're exempt from traffic laws.

i always thought it had something to do with registration or tax on registration or some other way for the government to make us tax payers pay more.
