That is why I do it. Its not all the time but if I do not like the way traffic is I try to get to a safer spot.

That me off and I do it just to frustrate (yeah I'm a bit confrontational). Other than that, I avoid the lane splitting at the light for reasons stated above and others. It's currently illegal but that's a chance I take willingly. I will say though that regardless of what you think, the majority of people driving the roads today do something illegal at one point or another...it's all relative...
My sister in NYC does this, as well as a few female drivers I know. They feels safer doing this, especially when there's a hobo at the light walking around asking for money/food/etc. They had a female friend who was carjacked at a red light, shot and killed, then the low-life scum ran over her body. Some of you may remember this incident from many years ago.

But yeah, it me off too... then I think about why. If it's a guy that does this, however, I stay PO'd. I tend to be more forgiving towards female drivers, and non-forgiving if it's a male driver

I do it if there are two or more lanes of traffic in one direction.
I have had cops watch me do it and say/do nothing.

I have noticed that the cars in the front of the lines get upset when I do and when the light turns green they start riding a little close like they are going to run over me or something. Haven't figured it out yet but it isn't anything that a little throttle doesn't fix.
Nothing like a health SS bike roll on!!

I can understand that but , in the middle of the day with hundreds of people to witness...it's a bit frustrating. At night, a lil more understanding...half the time there isn't even anyone standing on the corner where I see it happening...

As far as someone opening a door ... highly unlikely! Im sure a lot of people WANT to do it ... but 99% wont because they will mess up their door pretty bad.
And whenever I happen to look into some of the cagers faces, they usually have the same look ... they are thinking, "that f**cker!, but , I'd do it if I could!"

I do it at stop lights

Unless I am at the very front at the light, I don't pull all the way up because if I need to break off in the other lane, I've got plenty of room to do so. Plus if your breaks down or stalls, I'm not waiting behind you. And, I was rear ended hard once and it sandwiched me between an expedition and an F-350.... so no I will NOT pull up. But I will pull up between cars on occasion.

I split 'em on the freeway when traffic is moving any slower than about 20 mph. al day long.

I have suffered negative repercussions from this, but hey, I knew what I was doing was illegal.

Should be legal, IMO.

And car drivers that get mad are jealous - plain and simple.

I hear you on that, but Cajun was talking about 2 full car lengths! That's about 40+/- feet. That's a little too much, and I've seen guys do it! That me off a bit. I leave a buffer as well, but nothing close to that.

I don't see anything wrong with lane splitting...

Thoughts?

If it is done in a curtious way lane splitting should be allowed, I do it, if I'm sqeezing some in I don't, remember to be nice you lane splitting pelicans!!!

When I split lanes I get up to speed, then while filtering, pull in the clutch and bounce it of the rev limiter while firmly holding the horn depressed for however long it takes to clear traffic - sometimes two or three minutes.
