DynoJet suit...

http://www.bikernewsonline.com/label...0Emissions.htm

Quote:
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced recently that it concluded an investigation against Dynojet Research, Inc. At issue was the company's "Power Commander" that can be used to alter the air-fuel mixture and engine timing of on- and off-road motorcycles. CARB said that the installation of these devices would adversely affect the emissions control systems of vehicles that were certified by the original equipment manufacturers to comply with the agency's emissions standards. Dynojet has now certified a California version of the "Power Commander" and has agreed to pay $1,000,000 in penalties to the California Air Pollution Control Fund.

while i agree what the lawsuit says, why haven't they gone after "chip" manuf. or people who make boxes that reprogram car software. even the OEM's have aftermarket wings that do these things.

Stuff like this is only going to get worse, eventually you won't be able to modify anything on the engine and be street legal...

So you want More Environmentalist!

sad thing is them paying out that money will only be passed on to their consumers most likely via a price hike in their products.

In 99 laws were already passed by CARB to require non-load bearing emission testing on motorcycles AND diesel engines, including bigrigs. However, due to insufficient information and no test samples of a passable sample, it was not enforced.

Maybe no one understands EVERY car gets a dyno test unless its AWD in california. The passable emissions for my 87 Saab T in california was 20ppm when in the same year, 99 the passable rating in Texas for a new car was 225ppm HC if I remember correctly.... Yes they are strict.

AS FOR POWERCOMMANDER....

visit their website home page.... PCM USBIII is not legal for the streets. There is a CARB approved device for some motorcycles...

We were hasseled every trip to the street races and newbies needed to block for us with modded cars for cops. Commonly we made them pull their hand brake to come to a stop so that the cops would stop them for no brake lights. When they are tested, they pass... no skin off their backs... Same for bikes... its a gamble to ride with anything modified. The Saab was scrutenized for having a reverse opening hood and then under at the engine. Made the cop feel like a dumbazz when he was talking about my 'under drive pulleys' being an illegal modification. Dumbazz was pointing at the front of the engine.... Saab clutch is in the front, drive belts against the firewall... I got off clean....
