French, scared of some little threats by their allies... oops! I mean threats by the terrorists...

That sucks though.

What a shame.

Based on the toughness of the typical participants in the Dakar just let them carry guns and grenades and they should be ok. A few miniguns and rocket launchers in the race and support trucks would also help.

That sucks though.

I've never known the French to be "allies" to any terrorists.

On the contrary, the country and especially the French Foriegn legion, have been battling Muslim extremists / terrorists for years.

I do agree though, it sucks the rally has been cancelled.

Unfortunately the governments of some of the countries that the event is run through are currently having a difficult time with terrorism.

Yeah, it was tongue in cheek, directed toward our resident French guy... hence the little "gay laughing" icon...

Just messin' with the BC! (hopefully you know that, right Martin?)

I was wondering how long it would take for something like this to happen. I expected something to happen with the Qatar or Turkey races first though. Those make me nervous.

At least Turkey is off the GP schedule now.

The one advantage of Qatar is the super low spectator turnout. Less people to scan.

Yeah, they don't even have to work at it any more, all they have to do is threaten to do something, and the world stops spinning!

Went and saw Charlie Wilson's War last night.
Would highly reccommend it to anyone wondering why Afghanistan is such a mess now.
Great movie.
