I'M OUT (this summer)

Hey everyone,
I found out today that I will be transferring this summer, two years early. I'm headed out to a whole new job and I'm very excited about it. I'll still be in the military but I will be working with one of two shore based dive teams that the Coast Guard is creating at this time. No more cooking for Mike, it's fun but after 14 years I'm ready for a change. My new job will be diving, training divers, and supporting ship-based dive teams. It probably sounds like an odd career change to most but I have over six years of diving experience with the Coast Guard as a collateral duty. I'll be attending advanced dive training at the Navy Dive and Salvage Training Center in Panama City soon after I transfer, 4.5 months of P.T., and training on diving, dive medicine, underwater welding, cutting, and tools.... all sorts of fun stuff!

Oh, and my new job will be in San Diego!

I'm going to start cleaning out my garage pretty soon so keep your eyes open for free/cheap stuff in the appropriate sections. I think a townhome will suit my new job schedule better than a house so I need to clear out some stuff.

Anyone wanna buy a house in League City?

Thanks for all the answers, entertainment, and opportunities that MH has provided. You all have a pretty good group of people on here.

Mike

On the house, are you willing to self finance? Also, do you have a rear stand that you're wanting to get rid of (cheap)? If so, on either one or both, pm me please.

Congrats! Sounds like a great job! And to be stationed in San Diego will be cool too! Glad they finally created the diving positions. I'd heard rumors about them starting that when I was in. Gotta be better that cooking!

self finance? Sure, start giving me money. Once you get me $147,000 on top of my mortgage payments after i move out, you can move in.

Keep an eye on the for sale section for misc. items.

ISOPLUS, please tell me that's not what you think the CG is all about

Tim, I had my choice of San Diego or the Chesapeake Bay area. Easy choice. I really do enjoy the cooking but I think after 14 years of anything I would be bored.

Thanks everyone for the best wishes. I'll still be on the board. Where else will I find posted links to videos like the top 10 zit video posted in general discussion (F-ING GROSS BTW).

HoustonDuc, try for the League City FD and you can walk to work from my house! Will PM some basic stuff.

Thanks everyone,
Mike

Congrats to you Mike, sounds like a great time to come!

One of my race team-mates for the past few years is an underwater welder/ weld inspector as a civilian (he came from the Marines- not underwater welding, but was a specialty diver) and he made a mint in the civilian world with it!

Thanks,

Yeah, I'm considering a possible change of career plans after this has come up.

OH, in that case, don't listen to my advice on fire departments.

Gonzo, for a small "deposit" I would be happy to leave my bike in your hands.

Everything has a price buddy.

I don't know if you are aware but since I have been here I have either flown out once a month or someone has flown here once a month. Be it to be with my EX in Hawaii or my current "arrangement" in CT. That "arrangement" also has orders to a unit in San Diego so I won't be flying out for that. Maybe I'll need to fly to TX for track days....

I doubt it though.
