Court Day Success!!

Let me start from the beginning. About 2 months ago I was pulled over downtown and received tickets for the following: "Turning a vehicle from a direct course not in safety", "Speeding /30 (Urban District)". If anyone knows the downtown area, you would notice on Smith street between intersections there are rises in the intersections. Well on Saturday at 2:30am I am on my way home, battling all the stupid drunk people getting out from the bars. It must have been a full moon that night because EVERYONE in a cage was out to get me, and like a sane person I wanted to get the out of the area. So what do I do, I accelerate around a couple of cars and as I give it some gas to get away from them. In doing so I went over the rise in between the intersections, and the front end comes right up on me. Officer sees this and lights me up, signals for me to pull over. I explained to the officer that I wasn't trying to be stupid on the streets, and just wanted to get away from all the cars. After about 30 minutes of checking my VIN, DL, INS, he writes me my tickets and sends me on my way.

Court day comes around and finally I get to see the judge, I'm and want to plead my case. I was hoping that the cop wouldn't show up but sure enough he did. So the prosecutor is rambling on, the officer is answering questions about why/how he pulled me over. And finally it is my turn so I explained to the judge that how I went about doing things was justified and unavoidable. I took pictures of the rises where I was pulled over and then explained via the chalk board how things went about. Well the judge m
MUST be a rider because he could see why I did what I did. He ruled in my favor!! And much to my surprise too!! Both cases were dismissed. As I left the court house the officer was in the lobby, he gave me a handshake and said happy new year.

Just wanted to share this with you all.

Glad to hear it. glad u also mentioned that the officer shook your hand and wished you a happy new year.

it's a common misconception that cops get all off if you beat the ticket in court because it proves them wrong or something. most officers (not all, i will concede there are amongst us) write tickets because it is one of many parts of our job...not because we are trying to be pricks. that's why the court system exists, to give people like yourself a chance to explain your actions and have the judge decide. you were smart to wait til you went to court to argue your point instead of trying to argue with the officer on the street.

i'm glad the system worked the way it's supposed to that the judge understood your situation.

justice was served but riding a motorcycle at 2:30 am on a Saturday is rolling a pair of loaded dice - and the odds are NOT in your favor.
