How do you figure? Stock 17/40 gearing will only get you an ACTUAL speed of around 192mph or so..... I was at 9500-10,000 or so(in that range, I wasn't paying a WHOLE lot of attention)....>I still had until 11,200 indicated before it hit the limiter. I hit that speed above in about a half mile or less...... it normally runs 163mph in the 1/4.

FYI My speedo was showing close to 200mph......ofcourse factory speedos are 8-10% fast...

If I changed gearing to say 18/40, I could easily break 210mph, probably more like 215mph TRUE speed..Thats with about 250-260hp..

...let me know when you start to put it all together. I'd like to help out and learn about the innards of the busa.

Might be a nice rebuild thread if you have time to take pics and document everything. Dont get many of those around here.

Yeah I will chronical the build here with pics....I figure a lot of members here haven't seen one split open, they might be interested in the resurrection...I am already ordering the parts and upgrades...I figure I might as well make the most of a bad situation...I am going to put APE head studs in it and Crower I beam forged rods($800 for the rods). I already got a 4k mile 05 cylinder block, some fresh pistons....Pretty much it will all be new inside except the crank. Gonna cost me about $1500 or so to build it but it will be able to handle some serious power.....As long as it doesn't detonate, the engine will support about 450rwhp. Ofcourse my turbo is maxed out at 320hp but......if I ever decide to upgrade turbos, the motor is ready to go.....maybe in a few years I can upgrade kits.

All of the December races had one thing in common. The December winner was also the 2007 points winner. Well the shootout competition would be no different. Jason Rearick defeated Hector Pena in the final round to take both titles. One a special note we would like to congratulate Jason for his record breaking pass on Friday night. During competition Jason Rearick made a 7.49 pass at 182 mph on one mean Hayabusa. Rearick has shattered the 7.81 record previously held by Chuck Cunningham.

THAT ONE DOES 182 IN THE 1/4 MILE

Yeah you are right. Those shootout bikes and 60" bikes do run 180+ in the 1/4, lots of them in the 190-195mph range and even some have broke 200mph. They do run well into 6th gear. BUT they are running like 18/40 and 18/39 gearing, thats why they have so much speed at a lower rpm. They also have 500+rwhp to pull that tall gearing. I know Chuck Cunningham and Lee well, they have been in the upper 190s on some runs. To build a shootout bike with the power and management(clutch, boost, chasis, logging etc) those bikes have you would need $50k plus the bike.... They are killer rides for sure. I remember watching Barry make some of his first 7.90 runs in Houston at around 185mph on the shootout bike....That bike was only making about 420hp or so back then in 02-03. Now they have 100-150hp more then that but its hard to put it all down....
