Undertail Exhaust: Do you have a "stink" problem?

It is a well known factor with the 919, that it runs a bit rich, and there is a negative air pressure created at speed which circulates the exhaust back up towards the rider. At the end of the day I have an exhaust stink on my jacket, and even my hair! It is especially true for passengers!!

Do any of you with an undertail exhaust have this problem as well? If you do or do not, please let me know, as well as what bike you ride (V4/Inline-4/V-Twin/etc.).

I'm trying to deduct possible factors contributing to this problem. Such as: Is it due to the design on the tail section of the 919; due to the fact that it has no fairings to direct air away; or any other reason. Do all, or most, bikes with an undertail exhaust have this problem?

The 919 is Naked Honda inline-4, taken from the CBR900RR.

My hats when I place them on the passanger seat tend to stink a bit, or when I sit in traffic for a while I start to smell it

I smell the same way after a ride. I have an 07 CBR600. I think it's just the undertail, not the tail design.

Nearly all bikes with undertail exhaust will make you stink.
It's a poor place to put the exhaust IMHO.
That's 1 thing I like about the Buells, it's under the bike.

I'm not so sure it's just the undertail, because some bikes (with undertail) have it, and some don't.
What I am noticing so far, is that CBRs (Honda inline-4s) have this problem consistantly. Some worse than others, while some not at all.

I personally do not mind, but I like to ride with my S.O. sometimes, and she hates to ride on the 919 because of the stinch. Although i plan to keep this bike, I've been seriously considering buying another with 2-up "compatability" It's a shame, because the 919 is a great "sport"-bike, otherwise, for 2-up riding.

BTW, riding at speed doesn't cure the problem... just adds more neg pressure.

I've been toying with the idea of adding tips that turn downward or out to the sides, rather than straight back. Might look funny, though...

Even if I'm only on Mogee for 15 minutes, I get stinky. :/:

I was wondering about this a while back. If you figure out a solution, we should rewrite one of those awful commercials where two women are walking along the beach:

"Mom, can I ask you a personal question?"

"Sure honey."

"Do you ever have that. . .not so fresh feeling after riding?"

[Pan out to show two bikes with undertail exhausts]

"Oh honey, I used to suffer from that all the time until I started using Rob's Tips."

[Close in on an exhaust with tip modification.]

Voiceover: "With Rob's Tips you'll never again suffer another embarassing stinky moment."
