Grand Sport

I see LSTD has a track day there on 2/16 and was curious if they are running both tracks. It just does'nt look like it would be all that fun running on one track. Anyone have any updates on Grand Sport's progress.

From looking at the track on the side lines it doesn't look fun at all! But once you get out there it has a really nice flow to it! I got to ride several laps and I really enjoyed the track! I look forward to getting out on it next year!

The track should be a hoot, especially for the new or new-ish track rider.

It's got some spots where the big bikes can stretch their legs, and then it's got some really tight spots to hone your technical skills!

I think that track is going to be a great little track to have so close to us.

The second track should be completed "soon"- not sure when it will happen though. They're still getting the amenities up and running.

IMO, the first track is much better suited for 600cc bikes and less. A liter bike is a huge overkill. Got to ride it and it was real fun, with some really tight corners. Really short though, and it would be nice to have an addition (which I do not think will be done until at least mid spring). When I was there, there was no electricity, no facilities (nearest bathroom was on the track itself - portapottie that was used by corner workers...only one of those). The other bathroom was in Hitchcock town.
I would enjoy going back to ride, but I will not unless I know the facilities are there (shade and restrooms and electricity at least).
Plus, I hope they finally did the curbing and finished the first track.
The owners seemed really freaked out seeing the bikes on the track. Kept talking how bikes will ruin their track, etc, but they had cars on it before any bikes hit. In addition, they did not let the track sit after paving, they just started renting it out, so my memories were that the surface was disintegrating quickly.

Hope all the points are mute by now, and that all is fixed. We will see though.
Again, if you have a literbike, you may not get out of 3rd gear. Whatever you bring, you will have fun on it though.

Good luck.

That's the main thing now isn't it? Things have changed pretty well since you guys (ridesmart) were there.

Facilities are a bit better, but still no shade. They're working on it day after day as I understand. That is also one of the reasons why it is less expensive for us to have a track day there.

As far as bike size, while you may not hit 170mph with your CBGSR1ZX14-RRRR, there is plenty of straight away to stretch the legs of the liter bikes for sure.

The pavement is awesome to be sure. The curbing is done, and the track is in excellent shape. A lot of the misconceptions were had on behalf of the track's owners regarding bikes, but Macman, Jeff and Wade have done a ton of work (par usual) to make sure that they are educated on how a very well run organization can do things.

Last time I was there, they had water plumbed and the bathroom facilities were almost done. I don't know if they finished them, Macman or someone who has been there in the past month would have to chime in on that. Regardless, provisions will be made. Heck, we use port-o-potties at almost all of the tracks in this area anyway! TWS (Texas World Speedway) is the only exception that I can think of that doesn't use them.

Close to home, new pavement, fun to ride, no PD to pull you over for speeding, ambulance on site in case you eff up, time spent with friends.... can't wait!

I don't know if you mean do they have covers or chairs, but last time I was there there wasn't anything out there. We just brought EZ ups and chairs for them.

Don't need too many workers, the track is pretty easy to see from anywhere and access to a downed rider would be swift.

Before anyone asks, the spots for this event are full (cornerworkers).

Are visitors allowed during your track events? I'm planning on doing my first track day at the March Grand Sport event, and would like to come hang out at the February event for a few hours and see how things work.
