Woman claims officer took her car keys and left

Harris County sheriff's deputies are investigating whether a law enforcement officer snatched a woman's car keys and left her stranded on the Eastex Freeway.

"It's just a bizarre incident," said sheriff's Lt. John Martin.

The department is trying to locate one woman and possibly other people who may have witnessed the incident around noon Monday on Highway 59 North at Crosstimbers, Martin said.

The incident apparently centered around the passage of a funeral procession and the stranded woman possibly having cut through the procession, Martin said today.

The woman said a man on a motorcycle wearing a black jacket with the word "Sheriff" on the back pulled her over, demanded her keys and left with them, Martin said.

"Peace officers just don't leave people stranded on freeways," Martin said. "She is under the impression that he was actually a peace officer."

The woman's description of the man's clothing does not match that worn by Harris County deputies, Martin said.

But the department is investigating whether a real officer from another county or an area city was escorting a funeral procession, stopped the woman for getting in the way and took her keys, Martin said.

No other reports of strange traffic stops or key seizures have come in since Monday, Martin said.

Once the woman's car was towed off the freeway and taken to her home, deputies who went there learned she has no driver's license and the license plates on the car were registered to another vehicle.

The woman does not face charges, however.

"Our deputies never actually saw this woman behind the wheel of the car," Martin said.

The investigation continues today, he said.

While that is great and all, I seriously doubt he knew all that information if he just walked up, got the keys and left. So he did that under different pretenses.(He was being a ) Had he known her wasn't legit and all, then it'd be a different story. Now her dumbass, well.....she's got some SERIOUS to even say anything. So in the end, I say yes, **** her....

you right he prob didnt know that, but if some jackass female cuts off my ride to the grave sight, and shows that much DISRESPECT for the death, then im glad the cop did something about it!

Plus she has the ! to do all that without a drivers lis. and fake plates on her car.... who the does she think she is? seriously...

What I don't get ... is why a person, with no DL and a car that may or may not be her's legally would call attention to herself?
