GS500F... thoughts?

Okay ... still looking for an upgrade from my 250 ... what are your thoughts on the GS500? I'm looking for something I can commute daily on, good on MPG and can take on hard saddle bags for some day trips.

Thanks
Thomas

how far do you travel to work, do you get on the freeway? because the 500 is great for backroads and places where you dont go past 70 mph. if your goin on the freeway alot i say kick it up a notch to a 600 might be better with the extra weight of saddle bags, but thats my opinion.

Have you thought of a sv650, FZ6 or somehing like that? how many miles do you have under you belt? Just saying you may want to go with something a little more powerful.

Nothing is wrong with a 500 just saying that something a little more lively might be alright. MSF FTMFW!

Okay ... thanks for all of the quick replies ...

Yeah ... I'm looking at SV650s, FZ6s and the Ninja 650r ... just wanted to throw this into the mix as well.

My commute is about 20 miles round trip, mostly side streets. But I like to go on long rides on the weekend (gee ... sounds like I'm trolling for a date).

This past Saturday I went for a ride down to Freeport via 35 and just got HAMMERED by the wind. Cross winds were scary, I was actually finding my self pushed around by the varying gusts ... and the head wind was just annoying ... my little 250 could barely do 65 and found my self being passed by a nissan sentra ... almost made me want to just stop right there and throw my bike away out of embarresment.

So, I'm looking for a bike that's got some longer (and stronger) legs, plus a little more hefty for dealing with the wind. I'm going to keep the 250 to learn track riding (yeah ... I know ... sounds silly ... go ahead and laugh, I'm used to it).

When I was riding last Saturday for tires at Motorcycles Unlimited the wind was pushing my bike all over the road and it felt real loose. I was going slower than the rest of the traffic because I didn't want a gust to blow me out of my lane and I was on Louetta.

The Ninja 250 you have now probly is more adept at commuting than the GS500.
As stated earlier, I'd consider an SV650 or Ninja 650R.

My 2 cents.

+1 would probobly be much happier with the SV or the FZ, they maintain comfort, and Mpg, but you also have a little bit more power when you want it

Yet you have an SV and a VFR, which are both quite a bit faster than a Ninja 250. Sooooo, why didn't ya just get(or stay) with a 250? I mean, it does 110mph.

the gs 500 would be fine for side roads. not really good for long rides, especially on the stock seat. i don't think it would be that much of a step up from your 250. i used to own a gs, just my $.02.
