LSTD History past and present.

2008 marks the 8th year of Lone Star Track Days.
We founded our company after a long drive home from the 2001 Daytona 200.
Jeff Grant and I headed down there for his birthday and really got hooked into the idea of riding on the race tracks more often without the pressure of racing. There were only the occasional regional schools like Keith Code or STAR school but there were no consistant monthy track days.
We grew and expanded events like crazy. The 2003 CMRA Season came upon us and we got hit square in the forehead with the racing bug!
We rode a 2000 R6 to 3rd place in the MWSS class and all three owners rode sprint classes as well. I rode endurance, novice sprints on an F4, and an XR400 motard to 3rd place in the class missing the first few races.
I had one of the best races in my life at OHR racing Barry Nichols on identical XR's and we swapped the lead every lap to a drag race out of the school house to the finish line. Those were the days.

2004 was our highlighted year. Our sponsors stepped up and we assembled a new CBR600RR and set our sights on the championship. All 3 LSTD founder/owners and Mitch Bynum, one of our first buddies that we met in the CMRA rode a great year winning the MWSS Championship. 7th overall in the club. We had so many close races that year that each win felt like a Daytona 200 to me. It was the time of my life.
2005 saw the last year of all 3 LSTD owners riding on the team. Between motor problems, crashes, and other circumstances we finished 3rd overall.
Mitch had left and the mad man Jody Hudson had joined our squad. Never a dull moment with Jody in tow.
2006 saw the LSTD.com endurance team destroy 636 transmissions along with several destroyed or broken other Kawis. I for one missed our Honda.
Didn't race the last endurance round and finished another 3rd in class. We didn't have anymore $$ or bikes. :-)

2007 founding LSTD instructors Gabe, Mark, Frank, and Andy won the C Superstock Championship CMRA Endurance Championship finishing second overall. On a 600cc bike! We truly had the fastest instructors.

We have grown over the years and have had many fantastic things go right for us. Along with luck we have really worked our butts off to find great people and provide a quality service to the entire motorcycle community. We support racing, the sport bike enthusiast, cruiser and speciality days, along with the motor cycle community thru charity events, Motohouston events, and track day sponsorship to several CMRA riders. 5 sprint riders and 2 endurance teams received free LSTD track days in 2007.

We have grown our events but have always managed the 1.5 mile or less rule when selecting group sizes at our track days. In the early days our events would sell out in less than 2 weeks. We never overcrowded our events.
Our Friday CMRA relationship made us re-evaluate our group size but only in the racer specified group/expert. As the years have gone by several other organizations have popped up and we have continued to grow and offer additional benefits thru sponsor give aways and quality instruction.

People like Ronnie, Henry, Glen, Alberto, James, Charles, Jerrell, Maurice, Denny, Kelly, Eric, Gabe, Mark, Andy, Frank, Chad, Suz, Page, Mike, Alan, and many others have helped to make LSTD what it is.

2008 is going to be a great year. We will continue to focus on what we do well and work on the things that can make us better. Thanks for everyone and especially to our customers that make all this possible.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

Is it February yet????

I've been riding since 1980 and I long dreamed of being able to haul in a safe place. The racetracks always came to mind but to get on one you had to be a racer.
I never wanted to commit to the rigors and pressure of a racing season so I just stayed a dreamer.
I competed in a race at Aquafest in Austin around 1982, what a peak experience. My mantra was "Don't be last and don't fall down". I started in 12th and finished 11th.
Then 15 years ago I attended a Keith Code school at TWS (Texas World Speedway) and it was another high point in Motorcycling for me.
I kept dreaming until a couple of years ago when I found out that somehow with out my knowledge track days had become popular. As soon as I heard the news I bought leathers and started thrashing my FZ1.
I got hooked and bought a GSXR from a former racer and I love the whole show too much to stop.
I'm addicted.

I'm saying all this as an intro to saying, for myself and others:

Thank you, to LSTD and others, for giving us (finally) a way to expand our enjoyment of motorcycles in a noncompetitive, safe environment.

Mac... It was a pleasure and honor to be a part of the LSTD family for almost 2 1/2 seasons. In 2001, I attended my first LSTD trackday, and to become an instructor a few years down the rode, and the ability to give back what was passed on to me in the previous years was great!

Best of luck to the company and endurance team in 2008!!!

Firemalt/Tim,

I remember a backwards track day at MSRC when you, J. M. Gaston and I were playing hard. I was on my XR and you guys were on 600's. You guys started pushing pretty hard that day.
Memories...............
Hope your doing well. Miss ya.

Its beens my privilege to work with the entire LSTD crew. It doesnt seem like we are going on 8 years. I guess when you share a passion with great friends time tends to fly by. And Im sure the next 8 years will be even better

Big +1

Just a fantastic group of folks to work with!

I get stressed just before the day, and a bit in the morning, but by lunch when all the "kinks" are worked out, it's a badass way to spend the day working at the track!

Jody,

After seeing you laid up in the hospital I think I'll wait a few more years for the new hip.
My CMRA comeback may be 2010. :-)
I'm looking forward to backing it in in 2010!!!

Thanks for kind words everyone.

The 2008 LSTD Endurance team will consist of Gabe, Mark and Andy.
