I would fight it, if there's no sign. Go back and take pics to support your case. i would even videotape over a period of time, to show that it's a common occurrance, simply because there's no sign, and everybody makes that same honest mistake (if it's even a mistake to begin with... where in the books is it written?). Ask for Jury Trial (of your peers).

Just my .02 - Not Dissing on you, but the camera timer shows it took you less than 2 seconds to exit that photo - thus the you "RAN" that stop light ticket. The reason this stinks (And I got a ticket for this, so I know...) is because there is a 3 second stop rule. You must apply pressure to your brake and sit still for a 3 second count before proceeding. (I was at a stop sign - I had also pulled PAST the stop sign, so maybe it doesn't count with stop lights.)

I hope I'm wrong.

We don't really know at what point that pic was actually taken. She may have already stopped, and was already proceeding when that first pic was taken, in which case, yeah.. she'd be well gone and out of view in less than 2 secs.

+1 Could have been there for several seconds before the first frame was snapped.

But then, that would be a good defense for her to use... I was stopped because the light was going from yellow to red. I have heard they use video and can back it up to see how long she actually sat still.

Again, for her sake, I hope I'm wrong. I had to take DD and still got defered. Just another money spinner to line our politician's pockets.

You may be right about the first part - you are for sure right about the last part!

Fight it. It will likely be dismissed. If not, hire a lawyer. Video does not show if you had been sitting there for 3 seconds previous to the first pic.

It's funny how some cops seem to make up their own rules, ain't it?

look for a link to a website, it'll have your specific vid. on it.

thats the only way they can "prove" you didn't stop completly.

also the new camera's have taken the "crime" outta red lights, so it wouldn't go against your ins. , call and make sure.

One of our company trucks got caught. They sent three still photos and a video.
the stills were:
one approaching intersection while showing light to be red.
one in the middle of intersection while plainly showing light to be red.
and one real close up of the license plate.
then a video showing him zooming on through not a care in the world. there is no doubt at all.

never heard of any specifications on amount of time stopped. There used to be a cop in league city that didn't consider you fully stopped until the rear end of your vehicle settled. If you just stopped real fast then started again with out the suspension settling he would get you for running the traffic control device.

There's no sign required. Look it up in the transportation code. YES, you are allowed to turn right on a red BUT you still have to stop at the designated stopping point, treat it like a stop sign, and yield to traffic.
