One word. INDEXES! If databases had to search every single entry, that would be bad. As far as this forum goes, I don't know, but you would think there would be some sort of indexing in place.

Yes there is. It's called a result set. If I do a query on a the result is usually stored in an array or hash. I can get the size of that result set.

result = db->query("find me all the nekkid bootays buried deep down in the middle of the threads")

If result.size > 0; then
display threads;
set next_search_delay = 20

else if result.size == 0; then
set next_search_delay = 0
fi

^^ sumpin like that.

No dude, you missed it completely. You have to wait 20 seconds in between searches. Not that it takes 20 seconds to search. If you do a search, regardless of results, you have to wait 20 seconds before you can do another. Just like you have to wait 20 seconds in between each time you click the "new posts" button.

You are correct, sir! I did miss it completely, then...

well, I was trying to give a low-level explanation... I didn't want to get into all that... didn't know how many of youse guys would know what I was talkin' about... but you are correct... (that is the technical way to explain it...) but it doesn't look like it matters, cuz I misunderstood their point.. see above. :/:
