I pulled over but several people got to him before I could get to him. He had the right gear on and all but sometimes that just doesn't matter.

This guy was last known to be in the ICU at Ben Taub according to the news just now.

"I was in the car directly behind this rider. The officer who took our statement informed my wife on Wednesday that he didn't make it. I can tell you for sure he would have died instantly had he not been wearing a helmet. He did actually survive the fall. I can only assume his internal injuries were too great.

I know this is a long shot, but if anyone here knows who he was, I would like to give my condolences to his family. He looked like he was in his early twenties, maybe younger, and he had blond hair. He was riding a yellow late model Triumph Daytona 600.

Witnessing this event along with my wife, who just started riding last year, has reinforced in us the reasons why we wear helmets and ride cautiously and within our limits. Making a seemingly small mistake on a bike can have very serious consequences. Everyone please ride safe out there."

wish he went into more of WHY he went over.

Odds are good he either took the curve too fast, or target fixated on the wall.

Eyewitness accounts tend to remember extenuating circumstances, like " he got clipped by a car, or had a flat and lost it, or hit a board and launched"

Update:

Quoting Varko from TWTex.com: "He lost control of his bike right where the HOV on-ramp meets the elevated HOV lane. I've ridden my bike (a 2000 Suzuki SV650, BTW) on the HOV many times and there is a typical slight irregularity at that joint in the pavement. He was definately going faster than I usually do going up that ramp, and we saw his bike wobble right at that spot. I believe his speed combined with that irregularity and the fact that you're also turning at that spot (although it's just a slight turn) and possibly his inexperience with bike instability caused him to lose control. After the wobble his bike immediately veered into the left barrier and he flew over and landed on the I-45 shoulder below. His bike veered right and ran into the left barrier while my wife was hitting the brakes thinking we may run into the bike or the rider (we didn't realize yet that he had actually been thrown from his bike over the barrier). When I got out of my car and couldn't see him anywhere, I knew the unthinkable had happened."

i also bet that the steering angle played a big part in his instability.

Couple young rider, emergency steering situation, and odds are he turned into, rather than away from, the barrier. Instincts for new or "sometimes" riders don't promote contersteering correctly. 9 times out of 10 they turn right into what they were trying to avoid, just like if they were in their car.

Hey, Flying Scott has that bike. Has anyone heard from him recently. I don't have his number, but can anyone call him and see if he is fine? I think he is still in the US.

HOV Accident

I believe this was the rider......

Michael Lawrence Muller, Jr., 20, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away December 11, 2007. He was born May 21, 1987 in Newark, Delaware to Michael "Mike" and Rosemary (Boyle) Muller, Sr. Michael will always be remembered for his humor and kindness. He had a keen interest in, and skill with, computers. Michael was attending the University of Houston for a degree in engineering. He spent hours building and perfecting his Lego constructions. He was a NFL and Carolina Panther's fan but his greatest passion was his motorcycles. Michael loved his brothers and his cat Talon. He lived and loved passionately, in his own way. Michael we love you and are proud of the way you lived your life. You will be with us forever in our hearts. He is survived by his loving parents, Michael "Mike" and Rosemary Muller, Sr. of Friendswood, Texas; brothers: Christopher and Patrick Muller; and grandparents: William and Mary Boyle of Wilmington, Delaware and Don and Pat Shea of Wilmington, Delaware. The Visitation will be held Friday, December 14, 2007 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the Vigil Service at 7:00 PM at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr. (FM 518), Friendswood, Texas 77546, (281) 992-7200, www.jeterfuneralhome.com. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood, Friendswood, Texas 77546 with The Rev. Thomas Vellappallil, M.S. officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, Webster, Texas. Condolences may be sent to the Muller Family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at jeter@flash.net.
