Rider Falls Off HOV Lane

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5368187.html

Quote:
Motorcyclist plunges from HOV lane to road below

Police are investigating an accident that sent a motorcyclist plunging from an HOV lane onto the main southbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway near Beltway 8 at about 7:45 a.m., Houston TranStar spokeswoman Dinah Massie Martinez said.

No word on the motorcyclist's condition was immediately available.

The accident occurred between Scarsdale and Astoria, Martinez said. Police cleared the main freeway lanes by 8:30 but closed the northbound HOB entrance at Dixie Road while they conduct an investigation, Martinez said.

Northbound rush-hour traffic was slowed in the area because of rubber-necking.

I don't think it's good news that the cops closed the HOV ramp for an 'investigation'.

bikers pass the slow traffic right there, all the time. i bet he went into that corner too hot. i saw a black pickup truck and a yellow yamaha(? i think) parked there. i guess the rider went over, but the bike stayed behind on the hov.

Yes there's a barrier there, but it's only a couple feet high like all highway barriers and a rider could easily go over it just about any highway barrier since they sit high and go ever higher in a head on collision.

Lawsuit? Who you gonna sue? Maybe yourself for hitting the barrier in the first place.

True, and I agree... but it's been my experience that MOST people don't live by this rule.
