from what ive heard a guy showed up at oak hill raceway with a Honda RS125 GP chassis powered by the new CRF 150R motor. his lap times were 1:34's (i looked it up on CMRAs website) which are ok. but still 7-8 seconds slower than the fastest 125s

As far as the maintenance, don't the CRF450s require rings after some really short interval?

I think I heard like 10 hours.

I guess the 10hrs assumes there would be dirt ingested from riding motocross?

From my MX experience, they are always very conservative on topend service intervals, for recent 250F's I've seen the manual says about piston/ring/valve replacement "Every 6th race". They do this because parts for a topend are pretty cheap ($150 if you dont have to replace valves, double that if you do) compared to blowing up a piston, in which case you will likely need a whole need bottom end and whatever else gets shredded in the process, which could easily set you back >$700 just in parts. I'm sure the dirt and poorer airflow of dirt-riding both contribute to this.

Intervals on the 450's are longer because they have bearing supported rods (opposed to bushings on the 250's) among other things. IMHO I would be scared to run 1-topend through a whole race season due to the high-RPM involved with street racing.
