big brother

Ever notice that every traffic light now days has cameras. Meanwhile the HPD clames to only have 25 or so red light cameras. What are these other 25000 cameras for then? Now this morning on the news I saw a report about HPD testing drones. The hairs on the back of my neck salute the possiblities.
I hope the days of recreational speeding in the city aren't coming to an end.
I call my bike Rosy after the ac/dc tune whole lot a Rosy. That & she's red. But mainly because she's allways there for a quick fix.

some of those are to recognize the white flashing lights on emergency vehicles to change them to red so they can pass more safetly.

i know they have those in san antonio. You can drive down wurzbach(sp?) and flash your highbeams to get lights to go green. Great stuff!

I think the majority of the cameras you see are actually just traffic monitoring cameras.

I used to have a lightbar on my vehicles(vol. firefighter) and I remember one time in houston the switch shorted out and the lights were on turning all the lights green and people were pulling over. I was like WTF! I realized my lights had come on and i was yanking wires out from under the dash to get them to turn off. embarrassing.

those other 25000 cameras are mostly VIVDS(Video Imaging Vehicle Detection Systems). Instead of using ground induction loops (weight sensors as everybody calls them) cameras are used to monitor traffic flow so that the signals can adjust within set parameters. That should be the jist of it...

i've come to appreciate the red light cameras, since (for the most part) people have stopped speeding thru the intersection at 59 & Hwy 6 when the light changes. makes me feel a little more confident about crossing thru when the light turns green and i'm on my bike.

just wish they'd put them in over at alt 90 and hwy 6. twice now i've come close to getting hit turning left onto 90 b/c some jackass thought it would be safe to run the light since the lights are setup to give the intersection a few seconds to clear
