The Golden Compass

So I'm just curious, who plans on going to see The Golden Compass this weekend? With all the ridiculous controversy surrounding this film, it will certainly be interesting to see how it fares this weekend. If you haven't heard about this film, here's the link to the trailer....

I don't really give a Sh*t about all the controversy.

I just think it's gonna be a cool flick.

With all the controversy going on, even more people will go see it just to see what the uproar is about. I think it was strategic marketing.

Probably so. He needs all the help he can get doesn't have half the talent as CS Lewis has.

funny you bring this up, I just deleted an e-mail I received from a friend of mine that I use to attend church with....here is what it had to say....

I just received this from a friend of mine... the link is good, I read the information and definitely felt like it needed to be passed along...
(The red highlighting is from me for emphasis.) Love you, Denise
PS. Some of you have kids at home, and some do not... and some of you work with kids... and I'm "banking" on the notion that you all know folks that do have kids, to whom it would be valuable to pass this on.

Warning against The Golden Compass movie.

You may already know about this, but I just learned about a kids movie coming out in December starring Nicole Kidman. It's called The Golden Compass, and while it will be a watered down version, it is based on a series of children's books about killing (It is the anti-Narnia). Please follow this link, and then pass it on. From what I understand, the hope is to get alot of kids to see the movie - which won't seem too bad - and then get the parents to buy the books for their kids for Christmas. The quotes from the author sum it all up. I'm going to tell everyone about this movie....
NOT to support it with your time or money!!

That is what i heard too. It is one thing for an atheist adult to chose against but for an atheist to try to convince children not to believe in are just aholes imo that should be there decision.

It's just freedom of speach my fried. He has as much right to try to convince kids to be Athiests and the Church has the right to convince them to be Christians.

The beauty of it all is that everyone has a choice.

While I agree with what you are saying as a Christian even, you don't see us making movies killing Alah, or Buddha, or any of the gods of the different religions. Its called respect. Just like you would ask me to respect your beliefs, and not try to force mine on you, there should be respect for our religion. I think it is a line that shouldn't be crossed. The only reason they did it was for the publicity, especially with all the uproar lately about being taken off money and such. But I do agree it is freedom of speech or the press. I just think out of respect, it shouldn't be in a children's fantasy movie. But oh well, what can ya do?

But it's ok to make them believe in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy?

It's just a movie, you think because they watch superman they think they will be able to fly. Even my 4yo knows the difference.

REAlly lets see if I am wrong the kids just die if atheist are wrong the kids burn in for eternity. I don't think I would want to push that on since nobody knows what is beyond deathfor sure seems like a mean selfish thing to do to a child. And how is bad for a kid to live a christian life. He won't get aids or be a drunkard or adulter or any other vile things. What is wrong with that? Why do you think you have to force atheistic beliefs on children. Your life choice and phylosphy don't offer to someone except ending up as wormdirt as the best senereo.

That is a horrible comparison. Again, I don't agree with Gixxerbill to his extent, but santa and the tooth fairy? And these are religious idols with the same standing that Christians hold right? Two completely different things. Santa and the Tooth Fairy don't have bearings people's lives like does for a Christian person. Santa and the tooth fairy are imaginary people made up to give kids excitement, and something to look forward to without any intentions what so ever of them believing in them when they are old enough to understand. is on a whole different playing level. Sorry mirimirez, but that was a weak argument.
