Pump Shotty for sure is the best home protection. If you hear someone in you house. That cocking sound is thier worst nightmare in stereo. I'd imagined I'd pee myself if i was somewhere i wasn't supposed to be and i heard that. Just the sound would make me run the outta there! Also, there is a statistic that i've heard somewhere that 15% of people that are shot by a pistol die, and 90% of people shot with a shotgun die.

Ok a sawed off shotgun might be the best thing for home defense.

Exactly, and I'll add an important factor which is reaction and alertness. *It's 2-3 am and you forced awake by a window breaking or worse yet steps or sounds in your house, possibly heading to your bedroom or kids rooms, will you have the focus, reaction, and alertness to take down that intruder in an emergency situation? *The odds are against you. *The shotgun is the ideal home defense weapon because of this. *Point in the general direction and unload. *Take into consideration that most bad guys in home shootings get shot within 10-15 feet of the shooter, very low lighting, reduced alertness and reaction, and you can see why a handgun is not the best weapon for home defense. * *Not to ramble on about it but there is the safety factor too. *You might be the best marksman and you know that your gonna put your dime size pattern of slugs in your friendly visitors chest but after your rounds leave your target where do they end up? *Yup, you may have struck a couple things and or people that you weren't aiming at. *Typical loads for home defense shotguns (00 buckshot) are much softer and dont penetrate as deep. *Your target will probably be missing several vital organs and you'll have a of a mess to clean up but you didnt accidently shoot your kids or neighbors.

Sorry to run on....just some people buy guns for the same reason as buyin bikes...just to look cool. (Not to infer that this applies to you Jeff)

Can you even go into a bank with a gun?

Re: Can't stop reading....

JoeRider you are right, a shotgun would be the best. I have a couple of those too. I have much cooler guns then the Beretta, but I've had it about 15 years and it's one of my favs.

Is that the same one as the official military sidearm? I got to play with one a little while I was out in the desert (DS) the first time but I didnt pay attention to what model it was. The transition between the 9 and 45 was still in effect so some medics still had the old 45 while others got the upgrade.

Re: Can't stop reading....

This is what I have....its called a the "Persuader" Its a Mossberg 500 12gauage.* I purchased it around 2-3 years ago for a little under 3 bills.* *It comes with a pistol grip, 7 rounds +1 in the chamber and is approximately 20-22 inches long (legal limit)* It has a decent kick but you probably wont have to fire it twice.* *The nice thing about shotguns, especially with kids (I dont have any btw) is that not only do u have a safety but you have to chamber a round.*

Can't stop reading....

Re: Can't stop reading....

Remington makes a "Defender" model of its 870. Years of police and military use in that model and not very expensive either. BTW "Sawed offs" are illegal. If you still would rather have a pistol you can always get "fragnagble" rounds. These shater after hitting something solid. I use some "Rat shot" rounds in my .357 and have a combat flashlight right with it. Blind em identify them and only THEN blast em!
