UGK-1 written smooth on my plates
Cos real pimp players don't never roll fake
I'm bout to hit Dove Way, get past Troy's
I'm dippin by myself, I'm bout to call up my boys
I pass by the Colt I see some women lookin fine
I hit the corner one more time to see the booty from behind
Got to the corner, hit the switch and made it jump

seeming as though UGK along with Jay Z had the #1 record on billboard period for quite a few weeks with " Big Pimpin'". We don't have to make silly jokes about their talent, b/c it's obvious from record sales alone, it was there no matter what u listen to and has been since '88!

NOt arguing here just stating a fact!

sorry, but that doesn't show any musical talent to me. maybe PR talent.
this probably deserves it's own thread, and i don't want to make fun of a guy on his RIP thread anymore, so i'll stop.

Alice, why so close minded? Of all people on here.

I listen to all kinds of music - anything with soul. I'd agree that a lot of rap sucks the , but UGK has some pretty good stuff.

Honestly it doesn't matter what thread u put it in, music is good to the ear of the listener and who are U to make fun of the maker.

For a negro outta Port Arthur, TX to make it to the mainstream part of the industry with worldwide album sales, u have to have some kind of talent and to be in the industry for so long... u have to have talent, or there wouldn't be a such thing as "1 hit wonders".

If u don't like rap fine, but platinum plaques that I've seen over the years proves that there are millions of fans out there who do like this particular artist.

Don't knock what u don't really know about !

I am not a guy that is persay a rap listener (I like Marilyn Manson, Korn, Disturbed, etc) but I grew up and had very memorable times with my friends listening to UGK, Street Military, Gangsta NIP, Eight Ball and MJG etc. Since I was paralyzed, I look back on those times and the songs bring the memories back. So I guess I am more emotional about the memories of the songs and being brought back to those days. I respect his work as an artist no matter what it is, rap, country, rock, pop etc. This is no different than people that have no respect for sportbikes, Harley's, dirt or street. You are going to have those people that feel so strongly that their preferences are the only/best ones. Either way, the rap community lost another one. RIP

I agree. I personally listen to it all, as long as it sounds good to me, even death metal!

i don't think i'm being close minded. i can explain my reasoning. i like some rap. i like saul williams, zach de la rocha, weezy, etc., but most of these rappers talk about the same things in every song, and they have no musical talent(maybe the producers have a little). If they were at least poetic, and sang about original topics, and had a new perspective to bring to the table or something..but no it's all about their stereo, their car, and how cool they are in just about every song.

an example i like to use is The Game. i read an article on him in rolling stone-it said he was shot dealing crack or something, and i guess therefore decided to become a rapper over the next 3 or so months in his hospital bed. It seems to me like the better street image you have, the better your chance have in making it in rap. And that seems to correlate to a lot of their untimely deaths.
