Officer: ummm... she was wearing a coat and she was holding a baby!
News: Riiight...

That's the problem. The medical condition of the person being tased isn't known. Several people with heart conditions have died as a result of being tased. That's why the taser should be considered deadly force.

Ill have crys look for some of those cases. I know if you get a jolt across the heart it can stop it (ie defib). but i think that the tazers should be last line before they pull the gun.

I think there is a huge demand for new officers and the result is a lot of new less experienced officers.

Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength-

+ a million...

Shouldn't it have been "tazering to get control of the situation," or "tazer after getting control of the situation."

this is taken from the austin pd handbook

K. M-26 Advanced TASER (a.k.a. Air Taser, TASER, M-26):
1. The TASER is deployed as an additional police tool and is not intended to replace firearms or
self-defense techniques. The TASER may be used to control a dangerous or violent subject
when deadly force does not appear to be justified and/or necessary; or attempts to subdue the
subject by other conventional tactics have been, or will likely be, ineffective in the situation at
hand; or there is reasonable expectation that it will be unsafe for officers to approach within
contact range of the subject.

I don't think the woman was dangerous or violent...non-compliant yes but not dangerous. A well trained officer should be able to subdue a woman manually and if he can't they need to throw his ***** off the force. Cops are not suppose to be weaklings. Kinda like a firefighter...there are certain physical demands that the job requires...do them or get lost. The woman was face down on the ground...doesn't get more non-dangerouse than that.

The problem is that the "non-lethal" label of tazers change the cops mentality. So they tazer for much less offenses.

Why does one have to be in "the cops position" to have an opinion on the subject? If I wanted to be in the cops position I'd go down to HPD and apply for a spot on the force.

But, to answer the question. I'm almost certain that I could take the woman down without a taser.

tasers are not intended to replace physical restraint... they are designed as a alternative to shooting someone.
