I was shooting an older model, and the slide came completely off after it recoiled forward.

Have you read anything at all that suggests that's a common problem?

No. I have not. But it's my personal experience.

I had a para .40 that would stovepipe and double feed. I'll never buy another Para.

Some people will swear by CZ's or Para's. It's all in personal taste and experience.

Well, this could happen to any gun really. Anything mechanical can and will break. I had a Glock 30 that had it's slide release spring broken. When I realized this, the spring tab had already fallen out. I stopped immediately, but had I kept going, the slide may have came off like you've explained. Does it mean I should stay way from Glocks in general? Nah. That thing ate through thousands of round before I sold it. It is also the reason why one should shoot several hundred rounds out their guns before evaluating if it is reliable enough to carry.

Yes. I'm planning to go back to 9mm for Concealed Carry. I read excellent reviews about the CZ.

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CZ_75

Quote:

Colonel Jeff Cooper, long-time advocate of the Colt 1911, hailed it as the best-designed double-action autoloader available. It has become one of the most popular pistols of its class. As ČeskŠ Zbrojovka claims, it is in service with "more Governments, Militaries, Police and Security agencies than any other pistol in the world."

....the CZ 75 and variants are in service with "more Governments, Militaries, Police and Security agencies than any other pistol in the world". It is known to be in service with:

* Czech Republic: police (P-01)
* Chile: army.
* Finland: Customs authorities
* Lithuania: Police
* Turkey: police
* United States: various police forces
* Croatia: Police
* Iran: army
* North Korea Democratic People's Republic of Korea: (백두산권총[baek-du san pistol] : dead copy version)
* Sudan: army and police under license by Marra.

My present Concealed Carry pistol is a Kimber Custom II (M1911 .45ACP). I used to have a Glock 26 but after using the Kimber, I sold the G26 and will never go back to a sub-compact or compact gun. Full size RULES..!!!

But I like the versatility of the 9mm rounds, specially in hollow points.

Fullsize does kick but I'll take an Ultra Kimber(sub-compacts) anyday over any Glock

I frequent Shooters Station up in conroe. They treat me good. If you do decide to go up there, do it on Wednesday nights, or Saturdays and ask for John. Tell him Kevin sent you up there. I work with him so they treat me pretty good.

Not a great selection, but they do have a 92FS at Academy for $489, which is alot less than what I paid at Carter's Country.

I wish I knew about Tomball , though! I'm looking for a good CHL pistol, so I'll pay you guys a visit soon!!
