Read it... Blocking a bike can be at low spead or at high speed... again not saying its right or wrong... I just want to see the outcome... BUT as I have said... if he did it intentionally I agree that he should be canned and criminal charges should be filed... But what I am seeing is that many people think that ALL cops are out to get them... its like us cops thinking that ALL bikes riders are rude and irresponsible... but that is far from the truth...

I read the thread. My comment was in response to the story about the bike and passenger that were rammed, not the video. Apparently they are two seperate incidents.

Sadly enough, dumb riders as such put all of us in harms way, but we have to remember the fabric of what makes us great - We are a democracy, and we do have 'DUE' Diligence and a court of law.

The female passenger is truly the victim here. Solracer, imagine you are at home and your daughter is out with friends - not knowing that the rider she is about to get on a bike with has a criminal record. As they run together, the driver runs a light, and then runs from the police - her life is threatened because a cop runs them over. Where is the justice here?

Unanswered questions the cop should have thought of: Is the bike stolen? Is the passenger an accomplice or innocent? Should there be due-process? Is the driver putting innocent civilians on the road at risk . . . .?

I am no expert here and no one has a good answer here as to how this incident should have been answered, but as soon as the radio announced the riders criminal background, then I am sure multiple units would pursue, and possibly a helo would get in pursuit as well. There are trackers now that cops can employ that will trace the suspects even if they do get away.

Like someone said earlier, the bike will eventually run out of gas, and the driver can be brought to justice. I know a lot of cops and I doubt any of them would intentionally hurt anyone unless they felt threatened. If this driver were in a car, I could see a cop plowing into them - rendering the vehicle usless, and not necessarily the riders.

This lone cop was a renegade at most, not like any of the guys I know.

Did you not read it either? she wasnt hit by the cop, she had already bailed or fallen off during the chase....

go back and watch the vid, shes not on the back , also in the vid, the cop is on the right side of the road, the bike trys to get in the cops right of way....

had he stayed on HIS side of the road, it wouldnt have happend.

The officer knew what he was doing when he aimed that car at that bike. but in his case....he belived he had a licence to make an example to warn other bikers. or mabey he wanted some payback from bikers who had run from him prev. who knows. I think the law of blocking should be reviewed for changing times.

HERE is the important part of the article...

After reading the Star-Telegram report, Watauga Police Chief Rande Benjamin suspended both officers involved in the collision without pay for not following the department's policy during the pursuit.

read this part again...

"for not following the department's policy"

In my opinion, if you want cops to let people go and not pursue..... you have 0 respect for the law. LET THE COPS DO THEIR JOBS!

well...when I was in the FD...not following procedure usually meant that someone could get injured or killed...procedure or s.o.p.(standard operating procedure) is in place for a reason. It keeps people safe and departments out of litigation.
