plastic repaint

For those of you who have had your plastics repainted factory colors (ie. colorite), can you give me an idea of how much it cost?

I'm looking to repaint my zx-7 side fairings and possibly get a 7rr solo tail painted and am curious as to how much I'll be dropping on this.

Any and all info is appreciated.

Talk to Tony.... I never met him but he nicely answered all my questions I had about painting/repairing my fairings. They have a link on the site as well.

Color-rite costs between $125 and $150 per quart, and unless you get touch up, you can't get less than a quart (with limited colors, you can get a pint). To paint what you want painted, it would take a pint or just a bit more.

Clear coat costs about $100, give or take for the clear/ reducer/ hardener. Could cost more depending on the brand.

Then add labor @ $65/hr and shop supplies (like sand paper, cleaners, etc)

You can do your own math, but obviously, you're not looking at a couple hundred dollar job. Not to mention with fuel prices driving everything else up, paint prices are up too.

Most cost effective way to do it is to get a color match with a spectrometer. I have never had them get it 100% matched, it's always been just a bit off. If you're getting the Kawi green, I have a PPG mix that is just about dead-on for it.

If you want the Color-rite, it's going to be expensive. For the cost of just doing the panels, you could very likely paint the whole bike another color.

Choices in order of most expensive to least:

Color-rite

Total re-paint (one color)

Close color match (that you may not notice the difference)

Personally, I'd just paint the whole bike a color you like.

For a fairing piece (not the whole bike), you might be Ok with a half pint. About $80 for the color, but add reducer and clear to that. Additional $$ if it's a color that requires a base coat before the color coat.

That's called "Tri-coat", and if the paint you're trying to match is metallic, you can bet on it being tri-coat.
Now you're really in the realm of costing a bunch. "Why?", you ask, simple; now you have to buy twice the paint- two colors + clear. Most of the time, Color-rite has the paint mixed so that you don't have to do a tri-coat.

so give me some ideas on what color would look good on my bike.

here's the bike now
n23900527 34236351 8691

here are some colors i'm considering
yellow
2006 zx-10 yellow

and
e
2003 zx-7 orange

i want something bright. i dont want the normal colors (red, blue, silver, white, black, etc). pink is not an option, though i would dig some kind of crazy purple. any ideas/suggestions?

Here's an orange 636 I painted for a friend (Firemalt on here):

Timsbike

Pic kinda sucks, but you get the idea.

I did orange with a gold tint pearl top coat. Much prettier in person. I do like the yalla better in the above pics though...
