I have to ride in the 30° weather to school everyday. Even after the underarmor shirt, long sleeve shirt, hoodie, leather jacket with liner, i still get chilled halfway to school.

layering is key

leather vs textile, either will do, the most important thing is that it has a liner designed for cold weather, a plain leather jacket will keep the wind out, but not the cold. i've been wearing a dainese textile jacket for yrs and it's works fine. even crashed in it, and it's still going strong.

Get a fully perforated leather jacket with a zip out liner. That way you have something for all year round.

I have a Joe Rocket Textile leather jacket that does good even when the temps are in the 30's. Being a skier I use my old ski pants and they work great. I do have my jeans and Bohn Armour Pants on under that. Have a nice pair of Tour Master insulated gauntlet gloves that keep the hands real toasty. One of those balaclava hoods to go under my helmet and covers my neck. I also bought the little air dam thing for the chin of my helmet and that keeps the cold air out. I ride 30 minuets to work and have no problem staying warm.

I can never seem to convince the knuckle heads at work that I am warm while riding. Go figure. They put their bikes in the garage when the temps get into the 50's. I like riding in the winter because the bike seems to have about 10 extra horses and will accelerate like a mad man. It loves that cold dense air.

Same here...!!! I have to wear business attire at the office and I'm using the Joe Rocket perforated pants over my regular slacks and so far the cold is not bad, in the top I'm wearing my leather jacket with the liner (Alpinestars Spine) over my business shirt. Today was cold but tolerable. if it gets colder I'll use a sweatshirt below the jacket. So far my only problem is the neck, that's where I feel most of the cold.

I've got the Joe Rocket Ballistic jacket and pants. Its got some bulk to it but that is what keeps the cold out. I can ride in temps into the 30s and stay nice and warm. IMO, for cold temps it works a lot better than leather because it has more insulation. It costs a little less than leather and is water resistant as well. Anything that is designed for cold weather riding and has good closures at the neck and wrists should do pretty well. Be sure to get insulated gloves as well.

Electric vest or jacket. If you get the vest, you can add the arms later. Heated grips too (if you have enough juice).
