He didn't break any laws.

You may have a chance in court if he wasn't directly behind you the entire time. That's why once I lose sight of a car for a minor traffic violation I tend to let it go. I like having the violation and entire stop on video.

I have been followed by a cop before and even cops that get to close to my car... Sometimes I slow down so they can either hurry up and pull me over or get fed up and go around me... When they stay right behind me I go about where I was heading and don't let it phase me. You should have just pulled into a parking lot and you would have been done with it.

They can follow you as long as they want.

Read much? Or are you just dumb?

Ha, thanks for all the advice everyone. For everyone who has stated that the cop has the right to ride on a public road and I was just paranoid thinking he was "following me", go back and read the entire thread and you will see that HE SAID she was following me because he did couldn't safely pass and pull me over. BUT when he did pull me over he ticketed me for something entirely different than the reason he was following me in the first place.

This is what happened to me in California ... was driving on a two lane road at around 2-3 in the morning. A car pulls up behind me and tailgates me, so I speed up a little to put some distance between him and me ... 5 minutes later, the guy is back and does the same thing ... this goes on two more times, and now I'm getting concerned ... then the lights go off and it's a cop .. he pulls me over for speeding. I tell him I only was speeding because he was tailgating me ... still got the ticket.

This dude tailgated me for over 15 miles while pushing me to go faster to the point where I was going fast enough for him to give me a ticket. I couldn't prove it in court, so I paid my fine.

I've had no troubles with Texas cops, but the CHP is a different story.

HPD "followed" my ZRX-1200 so close in 2003 on 1-10 westbound that I couldn't see his headlights. I changed lanes several times and he would get right back on top of me. I exited around Kirkwood and got bumped from behind on the exit ramp. That was a case of following too close, like someone else mentioned. According to my HCSD friend it was a pressure method employed to get a MC operator to do something rash or exceed the speed limit. Really irresponsible if you ask me.

If you think you are being tracked, pull over in a well lit area and wait.

little bit different as HPD, not harris county, are on a higher level than campus police. But i passed a parked patrol car at speed limit on campus, he pulled out to follow me like i was getting pulled over then just started following my, i turned into subway (closest parking lot) and he went on his way. Just kind of a jackass move to move lanes following somebody until they mess up

yessir... but like you said, the sticky should be void of any -hat retards (excluding us, naturally, because all popo's are -hat retards). I'm happy to explain things and/or help people out with stuff if I can...

And "nofear" should be allowed to give advise, too. That way, everyone can see exactly what NOT to do...

I've had this happen to me on my campus plenty of times, I just let them get behind me and slowwww down to about 5 under and make sure to take my time and stop to let everyone out of parking lots, students cross streets, etc. But that would be your word vs. as to whether he was actually following you or not, so it would go absolutely nowhere. But when a cop openly admits following you then giving you a ticket 12 miles later, is that illegal or atleast frowned upon? If it's perfectly fine I don't want to add it into my argument in court and look like an -clown. I think I will regardless since I'm doing a Jury and not Judge decision.
