Car Accident: Hit and Run...

Yesterday me and the wife were driving home on 59N in the rain when I see a green Mustang pulling along side of us to pass us. He got on the gas as he got around us and then proceeded to break the rear tires loose. He hit us just infront of the rear passenger side tire with his front passenger side. He then whipped around and his passenger rear section slammed into the passenger door. This sent us into a spin that I was able to pull out of after one 360 spin at 65mph! He continued to spin a few times down the highway out of control.

After our spin I gained control and pulled over to the side of the road and watch the driver of the Mustang decide to take off. I tell my wife there is no way he's getting away so I take off after him and she gets out a notepad and pen. We catch up to him and get his LP number and then follow him for a while. While we were following him my wife called 911 and they said to just pull over and they'd send a unit out to us.

Well, we did and we waited 45 minutes for a cop before my wife called the Sheriff's Office directly. They had a unit to us in about 15 minutes or so. The Sheriff was a real good guy and took all of the info and said that he was able to trace the plates and they have all of the info they need to proceed in 'getting' the person who hit us and ran.

Our 2003 Mazda is pretty banged up, the whole passenger side is bent up and broke. The car was ONE PAYMENT away from being paid off and only has 34xxx miles on it! That's the part that me off the most. A couple of my buddies are real car nuts and they looked at it and think that it's mostly cosmetic and won't get totalled. I'm REALLY hoping they are right because we planned on hanging onto that car for a good 5 more years since we don't put many miles on it. Our insurance is coming out this week to take a look at it and we'll see from there how to proceed.

Funny thing was that my wife and I were on our way to my good buddies wedding where I was a groomsman. We got there a little late, but I was still able to get there in time for pictures and the ceremony.

All in all, it was a pretty tty thing to happen for us, but I just thank that I was able to regain control of the car and that we're both safe.

my goodness; I'm glad that you were okay, that's the most important thing.

I hope it goes smoothly from there too; sorry to hear about the situation.

Thanks for the well wishes... here's a pic from my cell phone shortly after it happened. At least I hadn't bought the new rims I was looking at last week!

call a lawyer! ASAP!

since this guy decided to run, you can more out of him than just the insurance money. if he doesnt have insurance you can still take him to court, if nothin else they may force him to sell his car to pay you.

i wonder if there is anyway to find out if/what company insures a vehicle by liscence plate alone?

The odds of getting any $$ from this fool are slim to none based on the appearance of the Mustang... even if we were to win a lawsuit. I'm just hoping that the legal system will work and that I'll be able to press charges on the sucker.

At least I have his plate info...
