to my knowledge...if you want to go out of state for anything, lousiana would always be the closest state from houston.

I think so. It's a state sales tax.

What I don't understand is paying tax on used vehicles.

If you don't title it, you don't have to pay tax. How will they know?

on a side notes, if you are not a dealer, you are required to transfer the title in 30 days or there will be a penalty for failure to registered it. This is in the case if you have to resell it. If you were to junk the thing when you are through with it then you don't need to pay for the tax or registered it for street usage.

I always thought buying out-of-state was a good idea... but this bike is SOOOO much cheaper than a "big" bike, in this case it might not be worth it.

Plus you gotta get a title eventually if you're gonna sell it, right?

You have a grace period to register the vehicle if you fail within their time limit there will be a penalty charges accrued for not paying the sale tax. That's if you are going to resell it someday. If this things turns to a scraps metals, you don't need to pay or register it. It's like buying a used vehicle from an individual, most people don't transfer/register it until their tags ran out. If this same vehicle is totalled, what's the point of registering it and paying tax on it?

i just called a kawasaki dealership in Lake Charles, LA....

"no we can't sell it like that.....we have to register and title it"

i know a few people who have bought motorcycles right outta the crate and not register/title it. looks like i'll just find a decent kawi dealer locally.

Are you sure you want to go with 250 instead of 600? 600 have more parts available if/should you need it.
