My dad works on cars for a living, and if maintnance is an issue, Corvette is not the way to go. If you want something sporty, fun, reliable, and good looking, go with a WRX. I personally would stay import. I had good luck with Mustang, but typically if you want something you can play with a lot and stay reliable, stay import. An RX8 or an S2000 would be awesome too. I personally would go WRX though, it is something you can still put the kids in. If you get an STI which may be hard to find for 16k, you can blow out the C5 corvette.

+10000

WRXs are plenty fast and with not much money can be made really fast

you could take 11k - 12k and buy a buy eye ['o2 - 'o3, my favorites] and drop the rest in mods. turbo swaps are pretty easy. get and acess port first and you can get it tuned for what ever mods.

check out NASIOC.com, it has TONS and TONS of info on pretty much any subaru you can think of
if you look in the regional section the TXIC is pretty active, lots of guys local that would be willing to help out.

there is a guy locally who has a forester [suv looking thing] that recently ran 11's on the strip. he beat a stock viper [though the driver of the stock viper probably wasn't that great
